Thriving in your PhD: navigating the treacherous terrain 🧠 As I achieved my PhD more than one year ago with "success" (that for me is growing personally and intellectually, not only the papers that I have published), I am receiving a huge influx of inquiries from students eager to conquer the PhD path. The key? In my personal opinion (and experience): 1.-Stellar supervisors 2.- Unwavering dedication 3.-Securing funding.🔑 And above all, enjoy the path with your team. Beware the "predatory professors" - those who promise guidance but deliver only disappointment. I was fortunate to have the best: Santiago Forgas Coll and Rubén Huertas García. Their mentorship was transformative. 🙌 And remember: the doctoral journey is no walk in the park. It requires grit, resilience, and the ability to overcome setbacks. But with the right support system and a relentless work ethic, you'll unlock doors to groundbreaking research. 💪 #AcademicLife #PhDJourney #SupervisorSupport #ResearchFunding #GraduateStudies

The number of PhD students who fail to graduate is scary! In the US, about 57% of doctoral students drop out (Council of Graduate Schools, 2008). At the discipline level, attrition rates vary from 11% to 67% (Golde 2005, Lovitts 2001, Nettles and Millett 2006). Yes, there are several reasons for failing to graduate. But I couldn't have guessed that such a high share of doctoral candidates drop out from pursuing their dreams of completing a doctorate. What does this mean? If you're interested in doing a PhD, where you do it and who will supervise you are also incredibly important. 1. Research your program thoroughly: Understand the program structure, faculty expertise, and resources available. 2. Talk to current students and alumni: Gain insights into the program culture, workload, and support systems. 3. A good supervisor isn't necessarily world-famous. Find advisors and mentors who understand your research goals and can offer guidance. Research about them. 4. Don't just focus on the prestige/ranking of the university.

Earning a PhD can take up to seven years. Investing time and energy now to thoroughly understand your options is well worth the effort. Here are Accepted consultant Dr. Karin Ash's tips on selecting the right PhD program for your unique goals. 1️⃣ One of the most important aspects of your PhD application is that your research experience should align well with professors in your target department. 2️⃣ Read the department faculty bios. It’s risky to apply to a university that has only one professor of interest to you. 3️⃣ Reach out to professors, provide them with a summary of your research experience, and ask them whether they plan to accept PhD candidates into their research group the year of your enrollment. Their support would positively influence your chances for admission. 4️⃣ Use LinkedIn or undergrad alumni resources to connect with students and recent graduates. Learn about their experiences in the program and whether they would recommend it. 5️⃣ Consider what financial support is provided or available for your tuition and living expenses, your research projects, and for attending conferences to present your research. Schedule a free consultation with Karin today and let her expert guidance help you make the right decision. Don't let uncertainty hold you back from pursuing your dreams - take the first step now! #PhD #HigherEducation #FreeConsultation #PhDGoals #PhDprograms #SelectingPhDprograms #HowtoresearchPhdprograms

Earning a PhD is often misconstrued as a direct measure of intelligence, when in reality, it is a testament to perseverance, dedication, and resilience. The journey to a doctorate involves navigating complex research challenges, enduring long hours of study and experimentation, and overcoming numerous setbacks. This path demands a relentless pursuit of knowledge, the ability to remain focused on a single problem for years, and the determination to see a project through to completion despite obstacles. Therefore, a PhD is less about innate intelligence and more about demonstrating the capacity to persist in the face of adversity and continually strive for academic and professional excellence.
