Expressive Arts Therapy $100 Supports 10 expressive arts therapy sessions for children - a proven way for children who have witnessed domestic violence to heal. Legal Advocacy $200 Helps two survivors with legal advocacy supports from our advocates who can help with filing an Order of Protection, accompany survivors to court to provide emotional support and help navigate the complex legal system. 24-Hour Crisis Line $250 Funds one day of our emergency 24-hour crisis line services for survivors. Our help line offers crisis support, referrals, safety planning, and more. Teen Dating Violence Prevention $500 Provides four sessions of our teen dating violence prevention programming - Relationship Education: A Choices for Hope (REACH).

🍂 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month! As we enter October, we proudly mark the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This crucial month raises awareness about domestic violence, highlighting its impacts and advocating for a future where every individual is safe and supported. What is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)? 💜 #DVAM is a time to bring attention to the issue of domestic violence (DV), educate communities, and mobilize efforts to support survivors. It’s an opportunity for advocacy, learning, and dialogue about the realities of DV—how it affects individuals, families, and communities, and what we can do to prevent it. Why is DVAM Important? 🤔 Understanding the signs of DV and its consequences is critical to prevention and support. Knowledge empowers individuals to recognize abuse, seek help, and support those in need. Raising awareness, we help create a supportive environment where survivors feel validated and understood. Survivors must have access to the resources and services needed to rebuild their lives. DVAM provides a platform to advocate for policy changes, improve legal protections, and enhance support systems. Together, we can work toward systemic changes that prevent abuse and support survivors effectively. This month is a call to action for everyone to engage in conversations, participate in events, and contribute to efforts to end DV. Collective action is necessary to make a real difference! Children who grow up with domestic violence experience devastating effects: 🔺 About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children, continuing the horrible cycle of abuse* 🔺 About 80% of 21-year-olds that were abused as children met the criteria for at least one psychological disorder* 🔺 Boys from homes where domestic violence is present are 25 times more likely to commit rape as an adult and 6 times more likely to commit suicide* 🔺 The estimated annual cost of child abuse and neglect in the US is $585 billion. Child abuse crosses all socioeconomic and educational levels, religions, and ethnic and cultural groups* A donation to Called to Peace Ministries will help us provide advocacy care and train churches to keep her and her children safe giving them peace for generations to come. #TalkaboutitTuesday: Did you know that April is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month? It takes a village to protect our children. When we know what the "signs" are, we can take action by reporting "suspicious behavior and visual signs." A quick Google search will provide you with your local number! My Why 🤔  Sexual abuse happens more often than we think or know (it's NOT reported🤐) AND is typically happening within the family dynamics that include "close" family friends. I have personal experience, two generations.   It is crucial to educate ourselves and others about protecting our children. Here's what the Whitehouse has to say: https://lnkd.in/etF9CHbn  Our What as a Community and as a Citizen I believe it is our responsibility to be aware and vigilant in preventing child abuse. This can be as simple as recognizing the signs of abuse and reporting it or advocating for policies that protect our children. Again! Do a Google search for your local Child Advocacy Center (CAC) to learn HOW to support the critical programs they provide to help those who have experienced abuse ~ side note: many typically work hand in hand with law enforcement during the investigation process to gather evidence for prosecution.  My local CAC is Kids House of Seminole, located in Sanford, Florida. September 1-7 is National Child Protection Week (NCPW), which I only found out about today. I’m especially thankful to have become aware of this campaign because I’ve been feeling vulnerable since sharing my podcast interview for Queer Life Stories couple of days ago that includes my story as a survivor of child abuse. NAPCAN has been running NCPW for more than 30 years to encourage and support communities to act on the core message, “protecting children is everyone’s business” and to remove the stigma surrounding this challenging problem. NAPCAN is Australia’s first secular for purpose organisation to focus entirely on the prevention of child abuse and neglect before it starts. NCPW aims to engage, educate and empower Australians to understand the complexity of child abuse and neglect and work together to prevent it. Clearly, we need to have difficult conversations regarding children’s safety and wellbeing in order for positive changes to be made. Unfortunately my childhood story is one of too many and things need to change. This includes addressing the stigma and shame experienced by survivors. Too many lives has been lost by survivors not being able to cope with their difficult memories and not being able to access the appropriate help and resources. Communicating my experience through art is one small way that I can (hopefully) contribute something to the conversation. October is the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (recognized from October 1- October 31). 💜 Domestic Violence Awareness Month is critically important to YWCA of Palm Beach County because it aligns directly with our mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Domestic violence disproportionately affects women and marginalized communities, making it a core issue that we are dedicated to addressing through our programs, advocacy, and support services. Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that affects millions of individuals, families, and communities across the globe. At YWCA, our mission has always been to empower survivors, advocate for justice, and raise awareness about this issue. Domestic violence does not discriminate. It can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, or background. This month, we come together as a community to shine a light on the importance of education, prevention, and support and to offer support to the brave survivors whose lives are forever changed and who stories may never be told. This month, we encourage everyone to listen, learn, and take action. Understanding the signs of abuse, knowing where to find resources, and how to support those in need can be lifesaving. Every child is a masterpiece, precious to Jesus, and worthy of love, justice, and healing. At Kids Alive, we believe we are the artwork of God, created to do marvelous works that He prepares us to do (Ephesians 2:10). October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a crucial time to address the silent epidemic affecting our nation. Each year, over 16 million people in the U.S. suffer from intimate partner abuse. Native Americans are particularly vulnerable, with 84% of American Indian and Alaska Native women experiencing violence in their lifetime. More than two in five American Indian and Alaska Native female victims report being physically injured, and almost half need services such as medical care and legal assistance. Unfortunately, over a third (38%) are unable to receive the necessary services. The Kaliwohi Project was created by Wendi Paden, April Robb, Rachel Shumway (秋夏）and myself to raise awareness and support survivors of domestic violence. We are running our 2nd annual fundraiser to benefit OneFire, an organization dedicated to helping Native American women who have experienced domestic violence. Your contribution will help provide culturally-appropriate support and advocacy, restoring safety, sovereignty, and support to those in need. 🌟 Tomorrow is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and Juniper is standing strong against elder abuse, calling on the community to join us. As one of Western Australia’s largest non-profit aged care providers, we're dedicated to ensuring a safe environment where everyone—staff, customers, and their families—feels confident to speak up if something’s amiss. Sadly, 1 in 6 older Western Australians experience elder abuse, often from those closest to them. This can include financial, social, physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional abuse, with many cases going unreported. “We provide ongoing training for our staff to identify and respond to signs of elder abuse. Additionally, we have established clear reporting procedures for customers and families,” Juniper CEO Russell Bricknell said. This year’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day theme, “Wise Up, Rise Up against Elder Abuse,” emphasises our collective responsibility: 💡 Wise up – Learn more about elder abuse, recognise the signs, and know where to access support. 🚀 Rise up – Take action individually and within our communities to stop elder abuse and support older Western Australians.
