We've built a strong collaboration with Lincoln College over the past 5 years, offering opportunities to young people. Currently employing 5 apprentices, we aim to nurture them into top plumbing and heating engineers of high standards. I take pride in seeing our first apprentice, Morgan, now out on his own, embodying our values. It emphasizes the time, effort, and support required when empowering young talents. In my view, current funding levels fall short in incentivising more employers to engage with apprenticeships. Believing strongly in the value of apprenticeships, I have been consistent in providing these opportunities. It's a passion of mine as it not only kickstarts careers but also fosters organic business growth. I adopt a fair yet firm approach, recognising the significant transition from school to the trade/workplace. Acting as a mentor to these individuals allows me to influence their career perspectives, a rewarding experience. My ultimate goal is to see each person reach their full potential, fostering mutual growth and success. When both parties share a value-driven mindset, success follows naturally!

Common Myths Employers have about Apprenticeships It is National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), and we are so excited to celebrate and uplift the importance of this pathway to meaningful employment. Still, we also want to share with our community the importance of getting more employers on board with creating apprenticeships. Although we currently have over 1,000 programs in IL, we want to see more in 2025! Next week (May 5- 11) is Youth Apprenticeship Week (YAW), a nationwide celebration that highlights the benefits and value of #RegisteredApprenticeship program opportunities for youth, ages 16–24. Employers, educators, labor unions, workforce professionals, and their partners across the country are launching Registered Apprenticeship programs that allow youth to earn competitive wages while obtaining the relevant training and experience to start their careers, often including the opportunity to earn college credit. “Financially it’s a great option, you’ve just got to make sure that you’re prepared to sit there and actually put the hard yards in for those four years.” Third year apprentice Michael understands the great opportunities that an apprenticeship can provide. But almost half of all apprentices don’t complete their training. It’s why the Albanese Government is undertaking a review of the Apprenticeships Incentive System. So that we have a more effective, sustainable, and long-term incentive system for apprentices like Michael.

Did you know that apprenticeships help fill skill gaps within the workforce, leading to higher retention rates and better job performance? And apprentices provide a pathway to stable employment and career advancement.   These are two of many reasons to consider an apprenticeship. It’s a great opportunity for an employer looking to fill a specific skill or need, and it’s a great opportunity for someone new to a career path to gain invaluable knowledge.
