Compensation under the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme will be #tax free. A statutory instrument was introduced to in 2023 (2023/184) to ensure final payments will be exempt from income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax. The same instrument covers compensation under the Post Office #Horizon scheme. Not surprising given the similarities in actions of the 'authorities' in both. 🚨 🚨 URGENT 🚨🚨 The bill goes to a full vote on the House floor on Thursday, November 21, so be sure to take action today or Wednesday! We know you are busy and don't need another thing to do but while your addressing those year-end asks call/email your representatives!!!! All the details you need here: https://lnkd.in/gMnEjXEw House Bill 9495 would give the Treasury Secretary unilateral decision-making power to take away a nonprofit's 501(c)3 status. The bill is written to suggest that this will shut down terrorist organizations, yet does NOT require proof of connections to terrorism or that the Treasury Secretary discloses the reasoning or supporting evidence. This could mean that nonprofits who speak out about the government or in opposition to the current (or future) party in power could be shut down, and be tasked with the burden of proving their innocence within 90 days. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), quoted in Nonprofit Quarterly, shared: “[The bill] creates a high risk of politicized and discriminatory enforcement. Many of us are deeply concerned that this will be misused by the incoming president, who has labeled mainstream organizations in this country as ‘terrorist’ organizations and he will be able to use this, if it ever became law, to deny organizations their tax-exempt status, to punish them, to try to silence them, without any due process, without any hearing, without any nothing,” said McGovern just before the vote. “This is a dangerous pathway this committee is paving for us to go down.” Full text of H.R. 9495 https://lnkd.in/gZZn7_YG Thank you Lauren Andraski for putting together this info so we could get it out there!

Considering how useless, wasteful and bloated local governments can be with money, it might be a good idea to take advantage of them. Then again, you’re not putting the screws to political leadership or the operators of local government. You’re putting the screws to tax payers.
