"Sense of Urgency" This sign sits quietly beneath the wall clock in the kitchen at Thomas Keller's 3* Michelin restaurant, The French Laundry, in the Napa Valley. It is a constant reminder to the staff of America's best restaurant that, at their level of excellence, every single second matters. Each move in the kitchen is choreographed. Each action is planned and intentional. Just like in one of the world's finest restaurants, executive search also requires a sense of urgency, precision, resolve and purpose. Attracting top talent is not a casual endeavor. You must be engaging, responsive, communicative and act with conviction. Each interviewer selected should be thoughtful. Each step in the process meaningful. If they are not, urgency is lost. Purpose is muddied; results suffer. If a search is not conducted with urgency, ask, "should we be conducting this search at all? Have we lost our purpose?" Introspection will lead to momentum and, eventually, results.

Mastering Table Manners: A Key to Professional Success Early in my career, I faced a crucial business dinner that made me realize the importance of table manners. Nervous about making a good impression, I dedicated time to learning proper dining etiquette. Here are a few tips I found invaluable: 1. Arrive on Time: Shows respect and sets a positive tone. 2. Wait for Everyone: Begin dining only once all are seated. 3. Use Proper Utensils: Follow the outside-in rule for each course. 4. Keep Elbows Off the Table: Maintains formality. 5. Chew with Your Mouth Closed: Ensures a professional demeanor. 6. Engage in Polite Conversation: Contribute thoughtfully and listen actively. 7. Use Napkins Properly: Place it on your lap and use it discreetly. 8. Handle Accidents Gracefully: Address mishaps calmly. 9. Express Appreciation:Thank your host and staff. 10. Observe Cultural Norms:Respect regional dining customs. Mastering these details not only boosted my confidence but also left a lasting positive impression. Remember, the little things can make a big difference in your professional interactions.

"The Power of a Good Brew" Having recruited in the Construction Industry for a long time, I've seen how "a good cup of tea" can influence the sort of day people have. Whatever your tipple, the act of offering and receiving a drink is a simple, universal gesture of hospitality. However, when you offer someone a drink and are told, "I'd love a good brew," do you just act on instinct and make it, or do you take the time to ask how they'd like it? If two different clients request a Site Manager from me, it may seem straightforward on the face of it, but you cannot assume that both roles will be the same. Like with a "good brew" every client's needs are different & if we don't dig deeper to understand the brief we end up giving them what we "think" is right and not what they want. It’s a common frustration for clients when agencies send CVs that have no relevance to the role they are recruiting for. It makes recruiters look bad & gives the impression they don't care about their business. Saying this, it’s equally important that clients don't "assume" a recruiter knows what they want, they need to give them a full brief and collaborate fully in order for both parties to achieve a common goal. Controversially, I sometimes put milk in before the hot water when making a good brew! Horrific, I know, but sometimes I fancy a milky tea versus a builder's tea! It's an occasional preference so I need to communicate when I want a normal cuppa otherwise I get what most people casually refer to as that "milky sh#t". So, whether you're talking about how you take your tea or discussing a role you are recruiting for, good communication and a full understanding of the brief is the best way to achieve an outcome that is to everyone’s satisfaction (and a warm perfectly brewed cuppa)! If we all do this, then ultimately... we'll all get a good cup of tea & who doesn't love a great brew!!! PSR Solutions Yorkshire Tea #goodcommunication #askquestions
