Most people want to age in their own homes, but will need help doing so. People are living longer with chronic health conditions. About one fourth of those 65 and older will eventually need significant support and services for more than three years. If they want to live at home, they have two options -- paid help or unpaid family members. Costs are high for in-home care and only about 10% of adults 65 and older have long term care insurance, which can cover some in home care costs, depending on the policy. As a result, families remain the backbone of the nation's long term care system. This story shows how some are coping with the financial, emotional and physical strain. #caregiving, #longtermcare, #agingathome

Most of us want to grow old in our own homes, yet the emotional and financial toll can't be understated. As a specialist in residential accessibility and aging in place, I've seen firsthand how challenging it can be to balance the dream of staying at home with the practical realities. It's essential to plan ahead or risk overburdening our loved ones. Insurance, savings, and home equity often aren't enough to offset the sheer volume of new expenses. Does your estate plan account for care, home accommodation, maintenance, and repair? #AgingInPlace #Caregiving #Accessibility #FinancialPlanning https://lnkd.in/grckaaes

In hot weather, heat stroke in seniors is a serious risk. Older bodies are less sensitive to changes in temperature and can’t adjust as well. So, seniors might not even notice that they’re overheating – until they become ill. And chronic health conditions and common medications, like beta blockers for high blood pressure, also make it harder for the body to respond to heat. We explain what heat stroke is and share 6 tips to prevent your older adult from overheating. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/ddakmKV #seniorcare #caregiving

Caring for Aging Parents 🏡 Helping your aging parents find the right health care and living assistance can be challenging, but there are many resources to support them: Living Options: 1. Living Alone -Make home modifications for safety (e.g., grab bars, emergency response systems). -Services like Meals. -Wheels and in-home aides can help. 2. Living with Family -Moving parents in can save costs and provide close care. -Consider adult day care for socialization and support. 3. Assisted Living -Ideal for independent parents who may need future nursing care. -Long-term care insurance can help cover costs. 4. Nursing Homes -Research thoroughly and reserve spots in advance. -Government assistance is limited and often for low-income families. 5. 7moYes, and in addition who wants to deal with Medicaid if you can avoid it. I would suggest that people get long-term care insurance early when it is more affordable. But nevertheless, look into different options that might satisfy the need to even some extent because I wouldn't depend upon the government to be available with funding; but, at least support candidates that support benefits for caregivers. Don't be cavalier about this. There are too many pitfalls for caregivers who are compensating for gaps in care.
