Legal Battle over EU Minimum Wage Directive before EU Court of Justice. Important issue about competence of the EU in social matters. The Advocate Generals point of view: the Directive should be declared null and void by the EU Court of Justice. Denmark brought the Directive before the Court. Main argument: regulation about "pay" is outside the competence of the EU. It is only for the national member states to develop regulation and policy on that matter. In Denmark almost all social regulation is set by collective labour agreements, a system strongly supported by trade unions and employers. And by political parties. Decision by the Court expected in March/April #decentwork #minimumwage #EU #collectivebargaining
