COOKING WITH GUINNESS STOUT Most people are at least familiar with what Guinness Stout is: the legendary black beer of Ireland (it isn’t actually black — it’s deep ruby red but you need strong light to see it). The hearty brew, with both bitter and sweet notes and hints of chocolate, is not to everyone’s taste as a beverage. However, it is an excellent ingredient for cooking. From baby back ribs, Mac-and-cheese, chili, burgers, fish-and-chips, soup, and cocktails, Guinness Stout adds flavor to a range of recipes. Try the Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. It is more heavily hopped than Guinness Draught and Extra Stout and has a higher alcohol content (at around 7.5% ABV). I always check the alcohol content in beer. It's as if anything below 6.0 ABV is like a waste of time. This is a pic of my wife and I in Antigua a few years back. As you can see, we had our fair share of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout
I don't often cook with beer...but when I do...
Lawrence, try drinking it with good milk chocolate, we used Cadbury milk as a rule and if you can get it in the US try that! Neil
Irish stew, indeed.
It does all of those things.
Shepherd’s Pie with a Guinness is the ultimate comfort food, especially if some Guinness finds its way into the pie.
Try the Guinness Export, extra dark. Famous in Nigeria and the Caribbean.
