A thoroughly enjoyable morning of discussion about the current state of the market. Charlie Barke is spot on as to the level of human disruption we are seeing (will we ever learn the lessons from our own history); Amy Rusack (White) made the valid point around us continuing to “pretend and extend”, how sustainable is that as an approach? Not at all biased, but our panel placed their money on logistics, housing/living sectors, and prime office as good bets for 2024 and beyond. Charlie Barke went out on a limb to proclaim retail and retail warehousing in particular, will be back! David Woodward declared we should look at burgeoning economies, follow the jobs and then look at housing (David’s money is on Derby, you heard it here first!) Christina Rehnberg brought us all back to reality to recognise the real work we still need to do as a sector to meaningfully address the significance of the “E”, “S” and the “G”. As we move forward trying to navigate elements entirely outside of our control (geopolitical risk, upcoming global elections and ever changing interest rates); we optimistically all agreed that we are looking forward to our industry reaching that “pivot point”.
