🚀 Key Takeaways from the AAC Conference! 🚀 Here are some of the key takeaways that we took from the AAC conference for your information: 🏡 Federal Housing Plans: - The government plans to build 1.2 million homes to address the housing crisis, but the skills shortage makes this ambitious. One solution is increasing skilled workers via immigration, though this could further strain the housing market. We recently posted more details about this on our website and LinkedIn. 👷 Certifier Mentor Programs: - With many certifiers ageing, the AAC discussed a shift toward mentor programs to support younger certifiers. 🛠️ Building Commissioner Updates: - The current Building Commissioner has made significant industry changes and is leaving soon. The commissioner's office is also launching a defects library to support construction professionals to build industry capability, it will be released 13 June. 🖥️ Planning Portal Issues: - Universal frustration with the Planning Portal! The AAC advocates for better training, reinstating the helpline, introducing a 'not applicable' button, and real-time testing. 📜 New Building Act: - The NSW government committed to creating a new Building Act which utilises plain English. The new Building Act will consolidate and modernise many pieces of legislation, some decades old, scattered throughout the state’s statute books. It’s intended to reduce complexity. The first draft will be out next month. 🔒 Scam Awareness: - Beware of sophisticated scams and phishing attempts. Advice on responding to investigations was provided. 📋 Certifier Insurance: - Insurance providers highlighted crucial clauses to watch out for in certifier insurance. 🤖 Chat GPT & AI Integration: - A demo of Chat GPT 4o was impressive! It was suggested Chat GPT 4.0 can help certifiers on a daily basis, with regulatory guidance and quick access to building codes, amongst other things. AI experts suggested integrating AI into businesses and creating strategic workforce plans. 📊 Chain of Responsibility: - A preview of an infographic highlighting the chain of responsibility for design and construction was shared. It is intended to create more clarity around the responsible parties in the end-to-end process. Amongst other highlights! It was fantastic catching up, swapping stories, and connecting with fellow industry peers. There is a chance we can use to produce an urgently needed SHIFT in world affairs towards more peace, mutual understanding, harmony, and evolution that we all desire for so much. I selected this diverse choir here of children and adults, which somehow shows that harmony and unity can exist in diversity, including neurodiversity. Our whole world can be harmonious while treasuring and and upholding their own unique cultural traditions and languages and at the same time appreciating and supporting each other. https://lnkd.in/eF9rUfhM

“The Upgrade” Tonight -- about a couple of hours or so after my arrival, many of my apps self-upgraded, including Telegram and WhatsApp but perhaps not WeChat. I couldn't tell but it looks like perhaps all of my Google apps have also upgraded. Maybe they are doing this favor to all those who attended NeurIPS 2024 in Vancouver. The apps seem to work just as well so far. For one thing, on WhatsApp, one can now edit one's messages directly. Something like recall and edit on WeChat, or a similar feature on Telegram, which were around for so many years. This was missing in my earlier version of WhatsApp. Last night, we went to Victoria Chinese Restaurant near Vancouver Fairmont. I thought the dinner was very good... Thank you to all the colleagues who attended, and all the hard work, walking the floors....NeurIPS, like CVPR, is a scene. The emphasis seems to be leaning back towards more theory but there were still plenty of unique problems, datasets and benchmarks introduced in a variety of domains, some new lines of research and architectural proposals, with the new Austrian company NXAI making high but economically attractive suggestions with their debut of their xLSTM series—the intentions and reasons for which are all good. The future, however, remains as always unknown except, perhaps, in certain drastically idealized world or worlds. And then we had the horrible speaking-to-one’s-own-bubble fiasco of the last keynote…. It was exactly the one I had decided not to attend.
