Hi energy sector friends! My name is David Snow, and I'd just like to introduce myself, and welcome you to my Linkedin community of energy sector leaders. Welcome! I'm an Energy Sector Job Search Coach and I help people just like you to find great new jobs at attractive salaries! How did I get into this business? Well, it's an interesting story! I've been involved with the oil and gas industry on and off since my early twenties, when I worked on the BP Forties Field Project up in Nigg Bay in Scotland. I was working for Brown & Root UK Ltd at the time, as part of the BP Forties Field Management Group there. We oversaw the construction of two of the four Forties Field jackets by Brown & Root - Wimpey Highlands Fabricators. After one year on the construction site at Nigg Bay as a Site Accountant, I got a promotion and moved to London as Accounts Payable Manager for the whole Forties Field project. This involved paying the two contractors building the jackets, the eight contractors making the decks, and thousands of other suppliers. It was a very demanding and challenging job, and I learnt a lot about how offshore oil rigs are put together! Then I changed my career track and became an English Instructor for adults, helping business professionals and university petroleum engineering undergraduates to improve their English communication skills. I've coached technical and business English all over the world -- in Italy, England, The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand. In Saudi Arabia, for example, I lectured at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals for nine years, helping budding petroleum engineers to develop their English communication skills. I also made a lot of friends who were Aramco engineers and managers, (as Aramco is located right next door to KFUPM). So in Saudi Arabia I learnt a great deal about the English language needs of non-native speaking oil and gas professionals. Currently I live in Thailand, where for the last three years I've been running my own ONLINE business, initially coaching energy sector leaders from all over the world in Spoken English Skills. Soon after starting, my clients began asking me for help with their CVs/resumes, and for job interview practice, too! But it quickly became clear to me that English was NOT their real problem in finding a job. Their actual problem was in how they were PRESENTING themselves on their CVs, Linkedin profiles, and in job interviews. Basically, very badly! So I did 300 hours of research and development and came up with my own ONLINE "Job Applicant Makeover" Programme. This transforms energy sector job seekers into candidates that employers WANT to interview and hire, because they present themselves extremely well! It's been very successful! So that's how I became an energy sector job search coach, helping people to land their dream jobs! I'm delighted to see you here, and to have you in my community!

Interviews are your opportunity to make a great impression, and in the Oil & Gas industry, expectations can differ significantly for offshore and onshore roles. 💼 Here are some key etiquette tips tailored for both environments: ► Offshore Interviews: For roles like rig operators or safety officers, companies are especially interested in your knowledge of safety protocols and your commitment to following regulations. Be prepared to discuss certifications, prior experiences in high-risk environments, and your approach to teamwork in challenging conditions. ► Onshore Interviews: For administrative and technical roles, emphasise your organisational abilities, communication skills, and experience working with cross-functional teams. Onshore roles often involve managing operations and logistics, so examples of problem-solving and efficiency improvements are valuable. ► Professional Appearance and Punctuality: Whether it’s virtual or in-person, dress professionally and aim to be 10-15 minutes early. This shows respect for the interviewer's time and commitment to the role. A strong interview can set you on the path to a fulfilling career in Oil & Gas. Preparation and professionalism are key—make sure to shine! Yes, you can land a new Oil & Gas job in under 3 months. The key to landing a new role quickly? Precise targeting of your materials. When your resume, LinkedIn, and cover letter highlight what makes you a top 1% candidate, recruiters will pull you in for interviews. The tricky thing is thinking from a recruiter’s perspective. So let’s reverse engineer this: ➡️ Assess the minimum requirements section of job descriptions and tailor the content in the top 1/4 of your resume to align with these requirements. ➡️ Pack as much data as possible into your work experience content so you don’t come across as generic. ➡️ Avoid and ‘everything and the kitchen sink’ approach in your materials so your skills are customized to your top 3 strengths. ➡️ Look red flags and gaps in ‘the face’ so you can be honest about your exact fit for a role. Highlight transferable skills or obtain new knowledge / certification if it’s required 75% of the time for roles you love. Need help building materials that get you hired? Feel free to grab a slot on my schedule! I’ll drop the link in the comments section below. Happy Friday, O&G friends! #oilgas #oilandgas #jobseekers #hiringandpromotion #petroleum #energy
