I asked women leading in the nonprofit sector, "are you looking for": -a community of women you can turn to for advice and support without having to tiptoe around conversations about race and gender? -a safe and brave space where you can completely be yourself? -best practices for management and leadership in your professional and personal life? -access to a digital library of resources on topics ranging from how to create more effective 1:1s to how to manage your time and energy for greater efficiency, productivity and joy? -bonds that will last far beyond the three-month program? And they said a resounding, "yes"! The inaugural Thrive LeadHERship Circle group met for the first time this week and I could not be more excited! Thank you to everyone who nominated and spread the word; you made a difference. If you weren't able to join this time, but want to be added to the waiting list to be notified about the next cohort, click the link in the comments below. #womensleadership #womenofcolor #nonprofits #leadership #management #worklifeharmony #peercoaching

Do you step right, or left? Step forward, or back? Assert yourself, or lean back? These are a few of the things I think about when I consider power dynamics in leadership. One of the things I learned while working for the Association of Fundraising Professionals was the added layer of power dynamics fundraisers experience. Layer on top of that being a queer person and you're dealing with power all over. ✊ Within your organizations ✊ Between you and businesses that fund your organization ✊ Through the relationships with donors who you solicit from ✊ With your board of directors ✊ In all of these places, with straight cis people Navigating power dynamics is one of the most frequent things I hear from queer people who are leaders. It's also what I often hear from fundraisers. This is one of the main reasons Jonathan Meagher-Zayas, MSW, MPA, CFRE, CDP and I are creating a new program. It's for queer people who are both fundraisers and leaders! But before we fully roll it out, we want your feedback and input! We want to ensure what we put together will meet your needs. Join us tomorrow, October 1st at 1:30 pm ET for a conversation about our vision and to provide us with feedback. It will also be a great networking opportunity! You can register at the link below. https://lnkd.in/eswaqh6z Can't wait to see you! #fundraisers #lgbtqia #leaderhsip #community

Connect with Gender Champion Munyaradzi on a call for giving women and girls opportunities to flourish so that their confidence, skill set and support enable them to dream and aspire to take up leadership opportunities. Charity begins at home so allow them to lead and make decisions at household level. Second layer is as school and learning institutions, let us encourage women and girls to take up leadership opportunities, let’s create safe space for them to participate and let’s cultivate their confidence , cheering and supporting them to believe in themselves. For participation in public life let us nominate them to lead, let us affirm them in their leadership and for those in power, let us share our power and decision making privileges with them. #Action4Equality

🎖️ Charity Adams: A Leadership Legacy That Inspires Us Today 🎖️ If you are looking for some viewing inspiration, Netflix' "Six Triple Eight" might be your next night in. The film tells the inspirational story of Charity Adams who was the first African-American woman to become an officer in the Women’s Army Corps. Leading an all-Black unit tasked with a seemingly impossible mission, she overcame racism, sexism, and immense pressure to deliver excellence under extraordinary circumstances. Her story is more than history—it’s a powerful blueprint for leadership today. From breaking down barriers and demonstrating resilience to advocating for inclusion and purpose-driven leadership, Charity’s life offers lessons that resonate deeply with the challenges leaders face in modern workplaces. In my latest blog, I explore what we can learn from Charity Adams about fostering inclusive cultures, leading with purpose, and navigating adversity with integrity. It’s a story that challenges us to think about how we can lead boldly and drive meaningful change in our own organisations. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eb2qss37 If you’re a leader looking to build a culture of inclusion, resilience, and purpose—or you’re striving to develop these qualities yourself—let’s connect. Check out this blog I wrote on anti-racism in the workplace - my first blog for Impetus - Backing the best. It's based on an event we held in June, on the topic of why non-racism is not enough and how leaders can effectively embed anti-racism in their organisations. Read 👇
What is non-racism and why isn’t it enough? Our Impetus Leadership Academy panel event, held in June, hosted experts Yvonne Field OBE Christopher Murray and Ashley McCaul, and ILA participant Jason Charles, to discuss topics including: 🔸the difference between non-racism and anti-racism 🔸what it truly means to be anti-racist 🔸how leaders can effectively embed anti-racism in their work Catch up with the full event in this blog post: https://lnkd.in/gPAEAv_b The ILA is a leadership development programme supporting talent from ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK youth sector to progress into senior leadership roles. #Leadership #Diversity #Inclusion #YouthLeadership

Hi! 👋🏻 It's re-introduction time! My name is Abby. Before starting The Justice Walk, I spent nearly 20 years in the nonprofit sector, mostly as an executive director. I'm deeply proud of the work I was involved with and the impacts the organization achieved. AND... As a leader I made lots of mistakes, caused harm, and perpetuated systems and practices that center the wants and needs of folks who look like me. That humbling discovery led to lots of personal work. It also contributed to an organization-wide effort to examine and change internal policies and practices to broaden who is seen as an expert with decision-making power. Now, through The Justice Walk, I rely on that experience to support leaders at all levels who want to infuse equity and belonging throughout their policies and practices. Through coaching, consulting, and workshop facilitation,* I create a space where other leaders know that they are seen and heard by someone who will not blame or shame them, but will instead normalize discomfort, encourage risk-taking, and respectfully hold them accountable for doing their own reckoning and learning work. 🟢 Are you committed to building a culture of belonging within your organization? 🟢 Do you have an academic understanding of systemic inequities, but aren’t sure how you can shift your daily actions to make a difference? 🟢 Could you use support convincing your board that equity and belonging work is still critical even though it’s no longer “trendy”? Comment below or send me a message. I'd love to walk with you! *Please note: Facilitated learning around equity and belonging must reflect various perspectives and experiences in development and presentation. I am a white, straight, cis woman. My most frequent co-facilitator is Ala Nzambi Ochumare who is Black, queer, and nonbinary. We see our partnership as an example of what equity work and transformational relationships can look like in practice. #nonprofit #philanthropy #belongingAtWork #BelongingAndEquity #LeadershipCoaching
