Benefits of Board service that come my way? Really? How so? Glad you asked. Mahatma Ghandi reminded us - "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." I've met people from across the world I would not have met had it not been for serving on a Board. I've learned lessons about business from industry icons because I served on a Board. I've strengthened my professional sphere of influence because I served on a Board. And I was humbled in so many ways as I walked alongside those so much more courageous than I will ever be who work tirelessly to end the cycles of generational poverty incarceration addiction homelessness unemployment domestic abuse hunger illiteracy because I served on a Board. At Leadership After Dark, we believe every Board seat is priceless because of the impact you can have on an organization AND ALSO because of the incredible journey ahead of you meeting new people, developing new skills, and doing good in ways you never thought possible. Contact us to find out how we can help you start that journey. https://lnkd.in/eG_f-Vjt Connect and Follow for more pro tips. #godogood #leadershipafterdark #nonprofits #socialimpact #communityleadership #civicleadership #boardofdirectors #boardmember #boardtraining #professionaldevelopment

Last month, I got a chance to attend the Advance Peace Forum. Advance Peace is a non-profit profit focused on gun violence reduction. The experience itself was transforming. The stories, the change and impact, and a community of people joining hands to make a difference. I had one moment that i'll never forget. I was carpooling with a group of men back to my hotel from the reception. One of them asked me, "So Priya, you are not scared to be around us?" I asked what did he mean? He replied, "beings around us, Felons." And I said no. If I didn't meet them, didn't hear their stories, didn't see the transformation, I would be. Because we are conditioned to fear them. We're conditioned to fear a certain group of people. But after being a speaker at two of their event, having one on one conversations and then attending a 2-day forum, I've got to learn a lot. My experience has been transformative. When I spoke at previous events about financial trauma from poverty and violence, it was relatable. Their only goal is survival. And your environment will determine how you survive. In order to make an impact, we have to be the change to bring change. We have to educate ourselves, break our own conditioning, and persevere. Until we evolve and break the cycle, the generational cycle of the same behavior and mindset will continue, resulting in the same suffering and struggles. #change #financialtrauma #generationalcurse #gunviolence #growth #financialliteracy #awareness #mentalhealth

We often hear phrases like, "Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime," but is it really that simple? What happens if he doesn’t have the tools, or if the environment around him doesn’t offer the same opportunities? These popular sayings can sometimes miss the point entirely. They ignore the real barriers keeping people in poverty—barriers like access to resources and systemic inequalities. Instead of focusing on clichés, we need to ask the right questions and create solutions that address the root causes. It’s not about teaching someone to fish. It’s about ensuring they have everything they need to succeed. Let’s change the narrative together #TPA #FCC #Nonprofit #TheProsperityAgenda #TheFamilyCenteredCoaching #Coaching #HumanServices #BreakTheCycle #ChallengeTheNarrative #SystemicChange #InclusiveSolutions #Empowerment #SocialJustice #CommunitySupport

There is allways something that numbers don’t show and homelessness is not any different. The numbers of homelessness about the resources and the impact don’t show the everyday conversations. The numbers don’t show the social aspects of feeling like you have nothing to be and no where to go. The numbers don’t show the day in and out drain on your soul that is felt when you live in the streets. The numbers also don’t show that we are warriors. The news reports cast us like we have never lost before and can’t handle being pushed down. Well I wrote the book on being pushed down and getting back up. That book is called Life Beyond Today. And if you follow along I will show you how I overcome homelessness, battle the risk factors in my own day to day life and how we can and will empower those that fall through the cracks. #writers #homelessnessawareness #leadership #nonprofits #boardmembers #housingcrisis

Don’t let someone’s inaction fuel your action and don’t let someone’s action fuel your inaction. A lot of the times when we see others acting and creating empowerment we may use it as an excuse to not do as much because they are coving it or because we think we cannot level up too. Or there are times that when another’s person is not acting so we act thinking we have to as if we don’t no one will. Each way of motivation is as dangerous as the next. As they rely on the actions of others to judge our own. Instead do some self reflection and pull from within the truth of your resources, time and effort and begin to act accordingly. With focus on these internal measures as opposed to external markers we can create compassionate and sustainable empowerment. #empowerment #homelessness #policy #teambuilding #nonprofit

Traditional aid models are not enough. People living in #ExtremePoverty face a variety of needs and multi-dimensional barriers to improving their economic status and overall well-being. #Coaching is a critical component in supporting our participants.
