This month, the LK Class of 2025 stepped back to the classroom and learned about the current climate of K-12 public education in our community and state. They also had the opportunity to hear about a few of the postsecondary education opportunities offered in our region. Tribe 3, the Transplats, presented their Pillar Talk on what it means to be a skilled communicator and class members were able to hear from representatives from Knox County, Pelissippi State, and South College. - Of course, we couldn't provide these opportunities to our class without the support of our sponsors and LK Alumni who volunteer their time to be with our Flagship Class. Huge thank you to our program sponsor TVA and our session sponsors Clayton Bradley Academy and South College. Also, a huge thank you to Pellissippi State for hosting us for the morning portion of our session!

It's been just wonderful partnering with Tasmania's Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) on equity-based reform in #Literacy through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports. I can't think of more important or rewarding work to be doing than this, or a better team to be working with, to build bright futures for all young Tasmanians. #EvidenceBasedPractice #MTSS #Literacy Monash Education
We have been working on building the knowledge and understanding of our leaders in the best way to teach reading. We want our school leaders to have access to the best minds in education. Jodee Wilson, DECYP Deputy Secretary Development and Support, and I are thrilled to be working with Dr Kate de Bruin, AERO’s Carlie Davis and ACER’s Julie Murkins to explore the latest research and evidence in literacy instruction and school improvement. 2024 is an exciting year for all our schools as we continue our system-wide approach to teaching reading in ways that are evidence based and shown to work!

During a recent WhyTry webinar, I had the honor of engaging in a discussion about common misconceptions regarding alternative education. During the session, I emphasized the close relationship between K12 and K12 adult education and the need to develop a continuum of care for youth transitioning from comprehensive high school to adult education. Excellent progress in this field
On the 13th of September 2024, Adult Continuing Education (ACE), in partnership with the School of Education, welcomed the inaugural cohort of the Postgraduate Diploma in Further, Adult and Community Education (PDFACE) programme to the college. For the first time, in the history of UCC and teacher education provision in Cork, we are providing a FET teacher qualification for all those practitioners working with adult learners across the diverse voluntary and statutory providers in our community. We honour the seminal work of Bertram Windle, Alfred O’Rahilly and so many women and men who have worked with adult learners over the years, and we look forward to supporting the further professionalization of adult educators into the future!

Thanks for the great discussion this morning on how higher ed institutions can improve reenrollment and degree attainment for those with some college but no credential. Explore the insights from our report: https://lnkd.in/gR3_g3qB
Had a great time this morning discussing the results of our research study on adult learners who left (and some who returned) to Shasta College and College of Continuing Education (CCE) at Sacramento State with Project Attain and California Competes. We were hosted by Dakota Pawlicki, Director of CivicLab. Always happy to talk with folks who are trying to make higher education more accessible and doable for adult learners!

Read the dimensions twice! When you read them the first time you go - yes, we do that! When you really focus on them you begin to wonder around the conditions and connections you have with all learners. Who is least served in your school? The next big lift in school improvement is possible when we change the conditions for all learners to succeed. Time to flip our thinking around the contemporary pedagogy required to see all students learning and achieving. The most common barrier to academic success reported by students in our surveys is a lack of adult encouragement. This barrier, often rooted in biases about which students belong in rigorous courses, significantly reduces student participation and success in programs like AP and IB. To boost student success, barriers like adult mindsets must be identified and shifted. In our next webinar, Kim Becraft of Montgomery County Public Schools and EOS’ Erika Cabrera explain how together, we are doing just that. Register here: https://lnkd.in/e2Px84hi
