On the eve of Election Day, over 50 business leaders, CEOs, and associations—including several Leadership Now members, Mark Cuban, Ken Frazier, Roz Brewer, Reid Hoffman, Business Roundtable, and the National Association of Manufacturers—have come together through the Business and Democracy Initiative to call for a safe and accessible election process. As leaders from industries nationwide, they’re urging officials and candidates to respect the electoral process and ensure that every vote is counted. "The critical issues for business leaders this election are ensuring the legitimacy of elections, upholding the rule of law, and safeguarding national security. As we approach Election Day, business leaders are uniquely positioned to urge patience and reinforce trust in election administrators. Business leaders are unified in their support for the legitimacy of the election process and the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.” - Leadership Now Project CEO Daniella Ballou-Aares Read the statement to see what national, state, and economic leaders are saying about the importance of protecting the election: https://lnkd.in/gX8CdHSU Public Private Strategies Black Economic Alliance Douglas Pinkham John Fees John Pleasants Adam Goodman Ron Miller Lisa Stoner Patrick McGinnis Richard A. In a recent The Hill op-ed, Leadership Now Member joel poznansky, Chairman of CBIS, and Douglas Pinkham, President of the Public Affairs Council, make a compelling call for business leaders and associations to defend democracy by supporting safe and secure elections. They write, “Associations and companies should not shy away from speaking up and stating the truths they know to be self-evident: that elections are fair unless proven otherwise, that voting is a sacred right that should not be abridged, and that political violence should never be tolerated.” With the upcoming election, major associations like the Business Roundtable and U.S. Chamber of Commerce have already reinforced the importance of fair elections and rule of law. In alignment with these efforts, more than 20 business associations have issued a joint statement from the Business and Democracy Initiative —a collaboration between Leadership Now Project, Black Economic Alliance, and Public Private Strategies—urging political leaders and fellow business organizations to support a safe and secure election process and reject political violence. 85% of business leaders agree a well-functioning democracy is essential to U.S. capitalism, but 78% are concerned about the state of democracy in the U.S. today, according to a Leadership Now Project report. The report warns of growing political instability in the U.S. and the potential risks to business. Standing up for basic tenets of democracy is not partisan, and business leaders don't need to back a candidate or make a political statement to get involved. Daniella Ballou-Aares, CEO of the bipartisan, pro-democracy group, shares recommendations to consider as national elections grow closer. https://lnkd.in/gyNvRk2b

I know people don’t like politics on Linked In but right now NOT acknowledging the way this election will impact all of our futures seems intellectual malpractice. Ok folks it’s crunch time. For the next 30 days I urge you to vote (of course) I have voted —but also I will be in Milwaukee area week before election where our team knocks on about 3000 doors each time we go (April and August. September this year). So vote, encourage others to vote. Sign up with phone, text, and letter writing groups for the swing states if you are IN a swing state or border one join the door knocking teams. You can link up to these efforts with commonpower.org Third Act Move On Or any of a number of other progressive groups. They all provide support and training for whatever you choose to do. Your vote counts but if we can each just get a few more voters per precinct in the swing states to vote, now that REALLY counts. It’s the swing states, it’s always the swing states. NV, AZ, Neb 1st (Omaha), WI MI PA (the blue wall) NC GA NH, the swing Congressional District ME. But beyond the Presidential if you have tight Senate races (NV, MT TX OH FL?? etc) or House races (I am looking at you NY and CA) help us win back the House and Keep the Senate. Remember all the good that was done when we had the trifecta? (Rescue Act, Infrastructure, gun safety, historic climate change fighting bills). Let’s keep that up and RESTORE WOMEN’S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS, PROTECT DEMOCRACY, PROTECT GAY MARRIAGE, GO AFTER PRICE GOUGERS, AND KEEP THE ECONOMY ROARING. AS I have said before, when you are asked where you were in the Great War of 2024 to save American Democracy and the planet for that matter, you don’t want to say I was too busy bingeing Netflix’s.

Welcome to Day 40 of my 50 day posting journey to Election Day. With the latest news being that democracy is under threat from a fascist candidate. This is from the direct words of General John Kelly. So - while it is surprising to me that we need to discuss why democracy is important for all of us - I am going to do that here. Here are four key reasons why democracy is crucial for America, tied with why voting for Kamala Harris is vital for its preservation: 1. Protects Individual Freedoms Democracy guarantees individual freedoms such as free speech, press, and religion. Without a functioning democracy, these rights can be eroded by authoritarian tendencies. Voting for Kamala Harris is essential for those who want a President that continues to champion civil liberties, push for reforms, and resist policies that restrict personal freedoms. 2. Ensures Accountability of Leaders In a democracy, leaders are accountable to the people through free and fair elections. This system helps prevent the concentration of power and corruption. Kamala Harris has consistently emphasized the importance of transparency, ethics in government, and ensuring that leaders remain accountable to voters, making her an appealing candidate for those worried about the erosion of these democratic norms. 3. Promotes Equality and Justice A core tenet of democracy is that all people have a voice, regardless of race, gender, or economic background. Kamala Harris, with her record on criminal justice reform and advocacy for marginalized communities, is the candidate most committed to fostering a more inclusive democracy, ensuring equal rights and justice for all Americans. 4. Guards Against Authoritarianism A strong democracy is the best defense against authoritarianism, where power is centralized in the hands of a few. For voters like me who see a rise in anti-democratic tendencies, Kamala Harris represents a safeguard, as she has often spoken against policies that undermine democratic institutions, such as voter suppression, and has called for measures to strengthen democratic participation. This framing highlights both the importance of democracy and Kamala Harris’s pivotal role in its preservation. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 #Freedom #HarrisForPresident #Election2024 #Democracy

This is an important message to All Americans and the #workingclass around the globe, concerned with US Policy and #democracy! It is a must read in order to understand a piece of the puzzle of how our government remains illogically dominated by the #TwoPartySystem from Presidential Candidate #JillStein. #JillStein2024 and the #GreenParty failed to get #BallotAccess in #newyorkstate, despite being the only #grassroots, US Presidential campaign to get anywhere close. The #newyorkballot has become far more demanding and restrictive for #thirdparty and #independent candidates since 2020. ( Here's a link to explain some of the more restrictive #BallotLaws in #USStates - https://lnkd.in/exrAcckT ) This highlights the utter corruption of the #TwoParties, and as #ThirdParties and #IndependentCandidates gain steam and popularity in different ways in different elections, more of these laws will surface if we don't speak out and fight them and call for reform of those undemocratic laws already passed to keep the people's choices out! The #CommissionOnPresidentialDebates / #COPD has made it impossible to overcome the near hurdles of #PollQualification via #CorporateMediaPolls, where most polls where the questions are biased IF and When Third Party candidates are even included in the Mainstream Media Polls. The #DNC / #DemocraticParty and #RNC / #RepublicanParty at every level of government, find ways to block candidates from getting on the ballot for #elections, and this must end. This "defeat" in New York is beyond #Antidemocratic, despite the claim that the Democrats are the #PartyOfDemocracy. And it will not stop the USA Green Party! They are the only Third Party Challenger who has the apparatus and support and can challenge the two party nightmare we see before us. Keep in mind, that the United States Green Party Already has enough ballot access across the country to win the presidential election, and will be the only challenger with both people-driven and much needed policies And Ballot Access to win, and who does not take corporate, billionaire dollars! #RFKJr is in bed with big money, like the Thug Two Parties. Spread the word, educate others, learn more about this fight, and get involved and #FightForDemocracy! Below is a great article and proposal for how we reform The Commission on Presidential Debates and let the people run our elections, not the Duopoly! https://lnkd.in/ePJ_ucC4 https://lnkd.in/eh-tKHr8
