🌍 How can we do more with less? This is a crucial question in the #blueeconomy, and one that aligns perfectly with the #100PercentFish initiative by the Iceland Ocean Cluster 🐟💡 At the recent Nordic conference on Co-Location in Marine Industries, our partner Alexandra Leeper PhD explored how #MultiUseAtSea and #CoLocation can drive sustainability and innovation across sectors 🌊🔗 Thank you to The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council and Nordic Innovation for bringing this vital discussion to the forefront! 🌿 #BlueBioClusters #BlueBioTech #HorizonEU #REA_research #BlueBioMatch #MissionOcean #BlueEconomyEU #SustainableInnovation #Nordics #DoingMoreWithLess #MarineSustainability
⭐ How can we do more with less? ⭐ 🐟 This question is at the heart of #100PercentFish and focuses on the very real need to not waste any of the precious seafood that we catch and farm around the world 🐟 💡 But this question goes beyond just the seafood sector 💡 Last month I got the opportunity to explore this question applied to #MultiUseAtSea and #CoLocation in the marine environment - and share some of the lessons we have learned at Iceland Ocean Cluster that are key to #DoingMoreWithLess with seafood, with space, with all our finite resources at sea. Thank you The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council Nordic Innovation Jordbruksverket for the chance to share these cross-sectoral lessons at the Nordic conference on Co-Location in Marine Industries. I wanted to present my favourite ones I have learned since joining Thor Sigfusson PhD at the Iceland Ocean Cluster here: 💡 Well placed management & policy can be a source of incentive to re-thinking resource use. 💡 Effective ideas don´t have to be brand new, complicated or large scale - starting small and aiming for easy wins are key to build momentum, trust and appetite for more ambitious ideas. 💡 When great ideas emerge - tell those success stories loudly and widely! 💡 Collaborating across sectors means a greater diversity of resources to draw from and often means good ideas can emerge faster! 💡 Some big ideas will be transformational to a movement - get behind them and spread the word! 💡 If it is clear how each partner in a collaboration might gain value from working together - it is much easier to bring them to the same table for effective dialogue. 💡 The importance of trust - which requires understanding - cannot be underestimated - and it often cannot be rushed! 💡 A clear, global need and well articulated vision, supported by quantitative data is a deeply powerful way to bring people together on some of our most urgent shared challenges. #blueeconomy #transferableknowledge #trust #collaboration #MultiUseAtSea #Nordics Thordur Reynisson Emil Gejrot Johan Penner Frej Gustafsson Sonja Andrén BlueBioClusters Project 🇪🇺 Innovatum AB Iceland Ocean Cluster Thor Sigfusson PhD Iceland Ocean Cluster Justine Vanhalst

The FERRO Project has just started, but we have already made a great progress with having the first kick-off meeting in the first week of June and a sampling campaign in the second week of June. We explored Enäjärvi, Pusulanjärvi and Rusutjärvi - fantastically beautiful lakes that undergo eutrophication. Can they be restored by sediment removal and sediment nutrient reuse in agriculture? We will answer the question soon, coming out with the sustainable solution. Meet the new members of my team on sustainable lake restoration, Katerina Gutovskaia and Kira Eskelinen. Many thanks for the wonderful collaboration experience to Juha Uusitalo (Enäjärven suojeluyhdistys) and Jussi Vesterinen (LUVY), Jaakko Uotila (Pusulanjärven suojeluyhdistys), Harri Luostari (Rusutjärven seura ry), and Kuno Kasak and Mihkel Pindus (our friends from University of Tartu discovering avenues of restoration with regards to reducing GHG emissions). In the meantime, I have had also an amazing panel experience at one of the most influential events of 2024, Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress in Helsinki. Gilbert De Gregorio so skilfully moderated the discussions on the challenges and opportunities of the systems transformation research. I shared the perspective of #sustainablelakerestoration as the National Champion of Finland (awarded by the Frontiers Planet Prize). We need more evidence of success and a joint platform of #sustainablelakerestoration to improve collaboration between environmental, social and economic sectors and foster change towards sustainable living within the #planetaryboundaries. It was a great pleasure to meet and learn from Gabriela Ivan (representing International Science Council), Sirkku Juhola and Kristie Ebi (representatives of the Jury of 100). In summary, it is extraordinary June 2024. What´s next? A few sampling campaigns and exciting discussions at Villars symposium 2024. Stay tuned;)

Nordregio bjuder in till spännande konferens i Luleå i november! Eller vad sägs om den här introduktionen? "In the Nordics we prefer our industries to be green, and yet our people fly even more now than before the pandemic. Innovation in green tech is abundant while sustainable behaviour lags behind. What if the Nordic region could be world leaders not just in renewable tech and greener supply chains but in living sustainably as well? A future where rural and urban economies thrive and sustainability is not treated as a greenwashed political chore. This isn't just a dream — it's a vision that is possible, when long-term planning is based on solid research." Digitalt deltagande möjligt.

Congratulations to the winners of the Innovate 4 Nature Award revealed today in Arles! 🎉 We are proud to be part of the selected solutions for the #I4NAward, and we wish the best of luck to all the innovators being recognized today for their nature-positive solutions. 🏆 Innovate 4 Nature - I4N purpose is to accelerate nature-positive solutions to transition towards a #regenerativeeconomy. It identifies transformative solutions spanning across: sustainable management of ecosystems, nature as infrastructure, productive & regenerative agriculture and circular nature-positive solutions. 🌍 700'000 Heures Impact regenerative hospitality solution, carried out for the design and implementation of regenerative programs by Diane Binder, founder and CEO of Regenopolis and co-founder of 700’000 heures Impact, has been selected as a groundbreaking solution harnessing the power of hospitality to contribute to the regeneration of local communities and surrounding natural ecosystems and to address the destructive effects of tourism on both the environment and local communities. ♻️ ⚠️ With 1.5 billion travellers visiting just 5% of the planet annually, #masstourism often results in #biodiversity erosion, environmental damage and cultural standardization.💥 🌿 Our approach uses micro-hospitality to regenerate ecosystems and local economies by restoring lands, fostering a local #bioeconomy, supporting #livelihoods, and preserving #culturalheritage. 🪴 How do we do this? By fostering the emergence of bio-businesses that utilize existing natural resources to offer sustainable, non-polluting, and non-land-degrading employment opportunities for local populations. Currently, we operate in Tizkmoudine, Morocco 🇲🇦, Tarapoto, Peru 🇵🇪, and soon in Oaxaca, Mexico 🇲🇽. 🌱 We are also honoured to be finalists for 2 other organizations: the Banque Interaméricaine de Développement Bio-Builders Lab; and Conservation, Food & Health Foundation awards (#GMAFoundations). Stay tuned, more to come soon! We hope to inspire more people to join us and collaborate on our innovative approach to #RegenerativeHospitality and #NaturePositive solutions. 🌍Together, we work towards solutions that engage #communities, foster ownership, and ensure development that respects planetary boundaries. 💡To know more, visit our NEW WEBSITE: https://lnkd.in/eyrcK8n3 #RegenerativeHospitality #Sustainability #NatureBasedSolutions #CircularEconomy #WomenEmpowerment #CommunityDevelopment #Biodiversity #ClimateAction #PlanetaryHealth World Economic Forum UpLink - World Economic Forum Restor G20 Global Land Initiative Banque Interaméricaine de Développement African Development Bank Group Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Bloomberg Philanthropies IKEA Foundation Mastercard Foundation Mirova Foundation UNESCO Global Environment Facility Anna Lindh Foundation Bezos Earth Fund The Long Run Forbes Bloomberg News https://lnkd.in/dxyF6C97

Great initiative within the framework of the LEADFARM5.0 project. There are only a few months left until the end of the project, but initiatives such as this collaborative commitment to respect for the environment, in its different facets, is undoubtedly great news. One more stimulus to continue working on this project.
