Let’s rethink our national holidays. Some ideas: 1. Move Memorial Day (to May 30, July 3, or Nov 11) to restore its meaning. 2. Get rid of Columbus Day and Presidents Day. 3. Establish a new holiday: National Day of Service. Gift article: https://wapo.st/3UUOVBE

These weekly missives have never claimed any level of clairvoyance, yet last week's post on succession now looks extremely pertinent. Only one place to start... 🦅 President Biden has pulled out of the race to be the Democratic candidate at this year's US election. He's endorsed Vice President Harris, but that's not a done deal yet. Harris must move swiftly to shore up support and present a united Democratic front to fight the election. 🦁 Also stepping down was Gareth Southgate, whose time as England men's manager has come to an end. The FA has released a job spec, which puts emphasis on building on Southgate's cultural legacy. How important is building a culture to good leadership? 👑 The Channel Islands are still basking in the positive glow of last week's royal visits. The islands reaffirmed their commitment to the crown and independent statuses, perhaps a timely reminder for a new UK Government? 💻 Friday's global IT outage is a good prompt to check your IT resilience. Businesses of all sizes are so reliant on IT that something like that event can have a huge impact. Have a good week in the summer sunshine 🙄

Union Family, You have seen everything I could possibly do here, and I still want to do more; now what? I’m going to take the band on the road. I’ve been asking for a long time. I tried to get all the training I could. I want to go somewhere I want to help: silence. Understandably, there was a pandemic still going on, but I wanted to do more. So, I stopped waiting for the magic to happen and started to create my own magic and everything that was labor-oriented and needed help. SMART was there because I was there many times. This picture, taken a few weeks ago, is a good representation of how I started and all the labor actions I will cover in my campaign for the upcoming weeks up to our General Convention. The Takeaways: 1) Don’t wait forever Many make the mistake of waiting forever to be picked for something when you have it in you to go ahead and do something. It is great to get the knowledge and the experience; however, sometimes there’s more to it than just that. If you see an opportunity, take the opportunity, and if you see that something needs to be helped, go provide the help; don't wait to be asked. 2) Don’t be afraid It’s OK to be scared; it’s a normal reaction. However, you should never be afraid; you will make mistakes. There will be missteps, but do not make those two things happen by being afraid to go do something. You have it in you. 3) There may be pushback It is better to ask for forgiveness than be denied permission, especially when you’ve been asking for a long time. Trust what is in your heart and the mentorship of trusted friends. If you have any problems with that, return to takeaway number two above. You have it in you. These are just some of the many experiences that make me a well-rounded rank-and-file presidential candidate. In Solidarity, Johnny

If you're being honest with yourself, neither the Democratic nor Republican nominee is who you want for president. Even if you supported Donald Trump in 2016, by now you're tired of his vindictive, self-centered antics and overall lack of understanding of geopolitical issues. Even if you supported Biden in 2020, by now you've become concerned with his policy choices and his ability to govern at an advanced age. Normally, we might say that voting for a third party candidate is simply throwing your vote away, but in this election it feels just the opposite -- that voting for either major party candidate is a waste. Interestingly, the independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy has a lot to like, regardless of what party you are affiliated with. Present-day Republicans tend to focus on protecting our freedom of speech, the right to defend one's self, and the importance of free markets. Democrats tend to focus on civil rights, human rights, and environmental protection. RFK Jr. is a refreshing third choice because he has been an outspoken defender of all of these -- without alienating anyone on the political spectrum. So, come this election, don't be misled into a false dichotomy. Consider choosing a third option. https://lnkd.in/e7HvVbNQ https://lnkd.in/eat7nJ4R https://lnkd.in/eJSzHZfs https://lnkd.in/eiKZwNt5 https://lnkd.in/eqUxvcq3 https://lnkd.in/eSV6j7cH

🎭 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching John Finnemore's "Among Other" at the Ludlow Assembly Rooms. One memorable sketch featured Emmeline Pankhurst and a WWII soldier, and underscored the importance of making informed decisions when voting. Pankhurst's message was clear: our right to vote is powerful, but it’s our duty to use it wisely by understanding the policies and platforms of each party. This got me thinking about parallels in my own field. As an air quality consultant, I often emphasise the importance of informed decision-making. Whether it’s policymakers crafting legislation or individuals choosing products and practices that impact air quality, the key is to be informed and proactive. Just as Pankhurst advocated for thoughtful voting to shape a better society, we must advocate for informed decisions to foster a healthier environment. Each choice we make, backed by knowledge and understanding, can lead to significant improvements in air quality and, consequently, our overall well-being. After the show, we were treated to a lovely view over Ludlow and beyond – a perfect reminder of why we strive to protect and enhance our environment. Let's continue to educate ourselves and others, make informed decisions, and take responsible actions – whether in the voting booth or in our daily lives – to build a better, healthier future. 🌍💨 #JohnFinnemore #LudlowAssemblyRooms #InformedDecisions #AirQuality #EnvironmentalConsulting #HazeEnvironmental
