🫱🏽🫲🏾 Trust-based #feminist funding is crucial for sustaining movements and effectively meeting communities in their moments of need. The support provided through feminist funding by models like #LeadingFromTheSouth goes beyond financial assistance; it also tackles capacity building, and advocacy resources to drive tangible change and foster long-term empowerment. However, the situation remains dire. According to OECD, the Official Development Assistance (ODA) of governments to feminist movements dropped at 29.1% (USD 631 million) in 2021-2022 compared to USD 891 million in 2019-2020. Feminist movements are increasingly under attack, and there is very little money to support them in a context where anti-gender forces are getting stronger and stronger. At #CSW68, Leading from the South, together with the Alliance for Feminist Movements, Count Me In! Consortium and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs shed light on the urgency for donors to fund, trust, and operate in solidarity with feminist movements. #FundWomensFunds #FundFeministMovements Sustain women's rights activisms in the Global South! Indigenous Women have tirelessly mobilized in the fight for their rights. This mobilization was strengthened by the Beijing Declaration of Indigenous Women in 1995. Today, providing resources for Indigenous Women is an essential priority to reduce inequalities and close the existing gap. In the recent presentation of the reports "Global Funding Trend Analysis on Indigenous Peoples Philanthropy” and “Leaders and Stewards: Global Analysis of Funding to Indigenous Women" by International Funders for Indigenous Peoples and FIMI - Foro Internacional de Mujeres Indígenas, the urgent need to support Indigenous Women was emphasized. Women's rights organizations, movements, and institutions get a mere 0.34% of total global aid flows, down from the 0.42% they received in 2020. Listen to the "What’s Unsaid" podcast hosted by The New Humanitarian, where they interviewed Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah on why the humanitarian system needs to do far better for girls and women everywhere, highlighting feminist funders that are stepping in to help like the Urgent Action Sister Funds(Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism, Urgent Action Fund Latin America and the Caribbean, Urgent Action Fund-Africa, Urgent Action Fund, Asia & Pacific), MADRE, and the FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund. https://lnkd.in/eVPFVmUa

INVITATION TO AFRICA DAY CELEBRATIONS ON 24 MAY AT UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS IN NEW YORK Register Here for in-person participation or virtually: https://lnkd.in/dUWZZhPK I’m pleased to invite you to the 2024 edition of Africa Day Celebrations which will be held on Friday 24 May 2024 from 3 pm to 5 pm EST( GMT -4), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. You can participate in-person virtually. The 2024 Africa Day Celebration will focus on women of Africa and the Diaspora and agricultural development. A cornerstone of such a theme is education, specifically, educating women so that they have the knowledge and tools necessary, and educating men to work as allies and equal partners. Compared with men, women have limited access to critical agricultural resources such as land, water, seeds, fertilisers as well as to markets, credit and financial services. This situation is exacerbated by inequitable laws and customs that often favour male inheritance and impede women from land ownership. The objectives of the 2024 Africa Day celebrations at the United Nations will be to: Explore the intersection between women’s rights and agricultural development, within the framework of the Campaign to give a Red Card to All Forms of Discrimination and Violence Against Women and Girls. Showcase the potential and promise of Africa, and highlight the positive narrative of the continent. Recognize developments and advancements in Africa from 1963 to the present. Inspire and empower women in leadership in agriculture, as well as related sectors. Bring attention to and popularize the SDGs, particularly goals 2 (Zero Hunger), 5 (Gender Equality) and 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), in tandem with Africa Agenda 2063 of the African Union. Create and formulate solutions, initiatives and opportunities for achieving a better, more equitable world, where no one is left behind. Please register to participate at your earliest convenience. Warm regards, Djibril Diallo President & CEO ————————/ ABOUT AFRICAN RENAISSANCE & DIASPORA NETWORK (ARDN) ARDN is an internationally operating NGO headquartered in New York, with the status of a United States 501(c)(3) public charity. According to UN Women in 2023, around 51,100 #women and #girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other family members. This means that, on average, 140 women or girls are killed every day by someone in their own family. We have to collectively work against #GBV. Our voices and our efforts are stronger together! In times of crisis, women and girls living in poverty become ‘shock absorbers’ of systemic failures. It was excellent this #CSW68 to see strong attention paid to this intersection of crises and women's and girls' poverty the world over, with strong calls to action to amplify, champion, and most critically, fund women in post-conflict settings. Speaking at a UN Women, Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), and DPPA event co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Austria, Sierra Leone, and South Korea to unveil research findings on the impact of women peacebuilders last week, I highlighted that: 🚨 Only 26% of National Action Plans on WPS had a budget when they were launched; 🚨 Only 5% of total bilateral aid in conflict-affected countries is currently allocated towards gender equality and the empowerment of women during reconstruction efforts; 🚨 If we take all bilateral aid supporting feminist, women-led and women’s rights organizations and movements in conflict-affected countries, we get to less than 150 million dollars for the last year for which we have data. By comparison, two trillion dollars were devoted last year to military spending. The world is investing more in weapons to start and sustain wars, than in the women and girls working to end them and rebuild, and the results are clear: the conflict and violence only compounds. Proud to stand with women peacebuilders, fellow feminists, and many other stakeholders this CSW in underscoring the imperative of making reliable, flexible, and multi-year funding accessible to local women’s organizations on the frontlines. 👉 Why investing in women's organizations is critical during crises: https://lnkd.in/gcrV5vAD #womenpeacesecurity #investinwomen #womenforpeace Paivi Kannisto

As Sri Lanka walks into another year of untethered impunity, corruption, and rising nationalism, the call for support is urgent. A wave of conscious support from international funders is crucial to support the resistance and resilience of women, trans, and non-binary activists at the frontlines of feminist movements. There are three ways we can do so: 🇱🇰 Strengthen the capacities of grassroots movements and networks. 🇱🇰 Encourage dedicated focus on sustainability and inclusion. 🇱🇰 Embrace intersectionality and changing contexts. #humanrights #feministactivism #humanrightsactivist #srilanka #funders #philanthropy #humanrightsdefenders

16 Days of Activism: Protecting Women, Strengthening Society In Kinyarwanda, we have a saying: “Umugore ni umutima w’urugo”—a woman is the heart of the family. This saying holds deep truth. When the heart of the family is in harm, silenced, or burdened by violence, the entire family feels the impact. Growing up, many of us felt the difference: when mama was around, the house felt alive and safe. But without her, it felt empty. That’s the essence of what a woman represents in a family—a pillar of love, care, and strength. Gender-based violence (GBV) doesn’t just harm women; it harms everyone. A mother who is disrespected or traumatized struggles to raise confident #children. A wife who feels unheard cannot contribute fully to a family’s growth. And a young #girl who is taught she has no value grows up believing it. This is how fragile families, weak communities, and broken societies are formed. But there’s hope. Empowering #women means giving them the respect and safety they deserve to lead, nurture, and grow. As Rwandans, we’ve seen the power of unity and resilience. When we uplift women, we protect families, raise strong children, and build a brighter future. Bob Marley once sang, “No woman, no cry.” For me, this song is a reminder of how vital women are—not just in families but in society. Without them, there’s a void, a gap that cannot be filled. On this day, as we mark the 16 Days of Activism, let’s reflect on what we can do to end #GBV. Let’s challenge harmful norms, empower women in decision-making, and work together for a society where no woman lives in fear. Because when women thrive, families thrive—and so does our nation, our world #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #16DOA GIZ Rwanda Plan International Rwanda Empower Rwanda United Nations #empowerwoman #mother

**My participation in the "Great Generation of Sudan" Campaign** With hearts faithful to God's will, we pray for the martyrs of Sudan and ask God to grant them mercy and make their final resting place in Paradise. In light of the recent events in Al-Jazeera and Al-Hilaliya, the challenges faced by Sudanese women in various fields have become evident. I am pleased to share a summary of my speech in the "Great Generation of Sudan" campaign, launched by the Sudan Public Policy Institute. The campaign included fruitful panel discussions on important issues, where I participated in the session on "The Future of Girls' Empowerment and Education," alongside a group of promising Sudanese youth. 🔍 **Historical and Contemporary Challenges**: Since the Closed Areas Law of 1925 during the Anglo-Egyptian rule, regions such as Darfur, Blue Nile, and South Kordofan were isolated, affecting women's empowerment there. This law imposed cultural and economic control, leading to the marginalization of women and girls, and deepening developmental and social gaps. 📉 **Economic and Social Policies**: During the Muslim Brotherhood rule, policies focused on empowering a specific group at the expense of women and youth, making it difficult for women to access economic and educational opportunities, thus hindering their financial and social independence. 📊 **My Experience as a Data Analyst in the Women's Empowerment Project**: I participated in a project aimed at supporting rural women and women in conflict areas through training workshops in cultural industries and self-employment. The study results highlighted the importance of uniting feminist organizations' efforts for a greater impact. 🔗 **Recommendations**: • Prepare a joint charter to unify the goals between feminist organizations. • Establish a Women's Parliament to represent the experiences of women in different contexts. • Support women in rural and conflict areas by providing educational and economic opportunities and addressing cultural and social challenges. 🌟 **Hope and Change**: Amid displacement and current changes, we must all collaborate to empower Sudanese women in all regions and sectors and strive for a more just and equal society. Unifying efforts and working together is the path to achieving sustainable change that ensures women's rights and their effective participation in building the future. - #UN #UNWomen #UNICEF #HumanRightsWatch #WorldBank #UNDP #SDGs #GenderEquality #WomenRights #YouthEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment #PeaceAndJustice

"Grounded in feminist movements, women’s and feminist funds are uniquely positioned to support the growth and resilience of feminist collectives, networks and institutions." In our latest article by Anisha Chugh and Sanjana Gaind, read about Women's Fund Asia (WFA)'s work, which is a regional #feminist fund working for the realisation of #HumanRights of all women, girls, #transgender and #intersex persons through feminist grant-making and strategic advocacy for resource justice. They attempt to provide an overview about the feminist funding and resource justice advocacy being undertaken by the women’s and feminist funds. https://lnkd.in/dCYGpAwG
