There are several paths that your organization can take regarding DEIA: 1. Don't do it at all and risk slower growth and lackluster business results. 2. Do it half-heartedly and experiencing mixed results. 3. Commit to it in theory, but not in practice; therefore, your team learns from trial and error. 4. Commit to managing DEIA well and experience positive, sustainable business outcomes. Everybody wants to jump straight to #4 but the reality is that your team must have the right mix of knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to manage DEIA well. This is where we can help. Cut through the maze when your team understands industry best practices, employs forward-thinking strategies for success, and commits to maintaining professional credentials as a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® or Certified Diversity Executive (CDE)®: https://lnkd.in/eWjt7xg

We are in an era where learning and knowledge provide value through better business insights and improved stakeholder experiences. Nevertheless, in the world of DEIA, leaders must balance the risks from conservative lawsuits, as well as the potential losses associated with different customer segments and talent relative to discrimination and harassment claims. Update your approach to DEIA and ensure that your team has the right knowledge, skills, and tools to navigate through modern-day complexities. Only with human ingenuity can we develop solutions for the global challenges before us. Intellectual property (IP) rights are a critical incentive for the innovation and creativity that drive these solutions and, in turn, for the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). That was my key message to participants in an American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) event commemorating World Intellectual Property Day. I also took stock of the current world IP landscape, where we see more people using the global IP system today than ever before, and which has seen global innovation engines become more diverse. At WIPO, we work day in and day out to ensure that the global IP system remains robust. We are undertaking major work to simultaneously enhance and facilitate the customer experience across all our IP services. We have also increased our support for those at the forefront of creativity and innovation through initiatives such as our Inventor Assistance Program, which helps individuals and small businesses with limited resources take their products to market, and our IP Diagnostic Tool that helps businesspeople identify their IP assets in areas in which they may not have previously realized potential. We also convene and serve as a forum for dialogue, including discussions on the impact of frontier technologies on IP, IP finance, and, specifically in my Sector, on trade secrets, standard essential patents, FRAND disputes, and many more. As advocates for a resilient global IP ecosystem, we also want to look at what’s ahead. Disruptors, both visible and unforeseen, can rapidly change the pace and direction of innovation and creativity. Take, for example, the speed at which Large Language Models and Generative AI engines have evolved. We face a multitude of potential future scenarios for which we need to anticipate, prepare and selectively address. This is why WIPO is working to amplify its foresight abilities, as well as to build capacity within the innovative and creative community to understand, navigate and shape IP-driven innovative and creative futures that benefit everyone, everywhere. It was an absolute pleasure to speak at this solutions-focused event. Thank you, AmCham EU, for the invitation. My colleagues and I look forward to continuing to work with you and other partners in shaping a strong and resilient global IP ecosystem – one that benefits everyone and moves us all closer towards the realization of the SDGs. As noted by President Ursula von der Leyen, the European Public-Private Partnerships (#PPPs) within the FPs are crucial for promoting industrial #competitiveness as they attract co-investments from both public and private sectors, with highest financial leverage. EARTO Members have noted that the Co-programmed and Institutionalised partnerships have enabled significant advancements in #RDandI activities by: ✔️ Accelerating the creation and upscaling of new solutions, ✔️ Designing and implementing RD&I activities on a European scale, ✔️ Developing critical structures for co-creation and impact multiplication, ✔️ Sharing risks and knowledge, optimising resources, ✔️ Creating networks of relevant stakeholders, ✔️ Aligning national and EU research agendas with industry needs, ✔️ Supporting collaborative work in demonstration and piloting. Building on its members’ vast experience, EARTO makes 5️⃣ recommendations to refine and boost 📈 the use of European PPPs in the upcoming Framework Programme for RD&I (FP10) to make this policy instrument more effective and impactful 🎯 1️⃣ Focus more strategically the set of co-programmed and institutionalised partnerships for EU Industrial Competitiveness 2️⃣ Develop a better portfolio approach and strategic coordinating process to reduce duplication and foster synergies between the partnerships for greater impact, 3️⃣ Reinforce the strategic policy advisory role of Co-programmed and Institutionalised Partnerships for the whole FP, 4️⃣ Simplify the Rules for Participation to lower administrative burden, 5️⃣ Adress the challenges faced by the Co-funded Partnerships. With the recent Chatham House speech from Oliver Dowden on economic security this report produced collaboratively by #HEECA and #EECARO could not be more timely. The UK Higher Education sector has long been proactive in this space and is mindful of the opportunities and security risks the globalisation agenda presents. Key next steps needed are: ✅ Moving from a reactive posture to a strategic one. ✅ Ensuring parity of access to freely available resources to help inform and support risk based assessments of international collaborations. ✅ The provision of funding to empower the UK HE sector in meeting this challenge and the support of long standing initiatives in this space. ✅ Design of a professional development pathway to establish an appropriate sector economic security talent pool and enabling staff mobility across the sector. ✅ A national and international architecture of collaboration across academia, government, funding bodies and industry. ✅ Proportionate training resources enabling institutional and thematic contextualisation of content in light of diverse audiences (early career researchers, students, academics, professional services, technicians and senior leaders). We need to enable not disable the UK HE sector and this report demonstrates a strong UK & EU collaboration with recommendations on how we can achieve that. #economicsecurity #exportcontrols #researchsecurity #security #trustedresearch #highereducation
