#Preppindata Challenge: Week 18: San Diego Zoo TC24 Special, hosted by Jenny Martin This week, I worked through the San Diego Zoo TC24 Special challenge. We were provided with three Excel files: plants, animals, and wildfire tables. I solved this challenge by KNIME Here’s a summary of what I solved: Unpivoting Data: I unpivoted the plants and animals tables to add a new column with animal or plants. In the animals table, the class names are joined in both Latin and English. I used Column Expressions to select only the English class names and split by cell splitter node. Combining Data: I used the Concatenate node to union the plants and animal tables and created a new RowID with help of rowed node. Then, I employed the Column Renamer node to rename the columns appropriately. Data Cleaning: For the wildfire table, I fixed the format issue where the apostrophe was encoded as '. I replaced them with the correct characters with the help of String manipulation node. Joining Tables: I joined the plants and animals tables with the wildfire table and wrote the final dataset to an Excel file using the Excel Writer node. When studying animal behavior, as a researcher we want to rely on using video tracking tools that are reliable, insightful, easy to use, and most crucially to avoid using a research software tool that is a black box. Cheers to democratizing design 🍻 I've been using Vizcom for the past 6 months, and it's incredible to see how much progress they've made in such a short time. It feels like new features roll out every week. You can now go from a simple line drawing to a rendered concept and even a 3D object with impressive fidelity—and it’s surprisingly easy to do! This is what I love about tools like Vizcom—they truly democratize design. But what does that mean, exactly? For context, I spent 5 years in design school learning how to visualize products and create 3D objects, which involved significant student debt and the use of at least three different tools: Rhinoceros 3D: 995€ KeyShot Rendering: 99€ / month Adobe Creative Suite: 65€ / month By comparison, Vizcom is just 49€ per month. While it might not offer the same level of control as the traditional design process. And it can't replace all of these tools. It does allowsyou to go from an idea to a concept much faster and at a fraction of the cost. This means more people can bring their ideas to life. And in the end, it's the idea that really matters.
