So here it is, the story behind the #VKDBusinessCamps, and the story of how I ended up developing a series of workshops with a focus on #entrepreneurialsoftskills, and how I ultimately got into #businesstraining: It was my last class at #OUBS. I really just wanted to finish my MBA at the time. Due to my parents' sudden passing and the time away from studying I had taken as a result, it had dragged on much longer than anticipated. The class was called 'Making a difference.' I was already self-employed at the time, so there was no use or added-value in writing a business plan. So I decided that I wanted to come up with something that would have an impact, something that would make a difference for small businesses. I started analyzing small business structures, and the challenges that go along with them. This was followed by a series of fairly long interviews with some colleagues in my professional association's mentoring program. I wanted to understand the dynamics of mutual learning that kick in when individuals who are new to self-employment and more experienced colleagues collaborate in a mentor-mentee setting. The result of this somewhat elaborate diagnosis/research phase was a 4-day training that is composed of 7 modules ranging from #personalbranding, to #customercentricselling, fee calculation, #selforganisation, #selfmarketing and legal matters. It first launched in 2014. After the first edition, some enthusiastic participants asked me what they would be doing the year after. So I ended up creating another level. Followed by another such question. And a third and last level. They are all based on #Kolb's learning cycle and the notion of experiential learning, and revolve around the principles of #customercentricity. I've always wanted this to have the impact it has had, and looking back I am grateful for the journey I have been on these past 10 years. I have tried to improve it every year, and learnt so much from it. Having said that, I am also extremely grateful to the #VKD for their trust, and to all speakers and trainers that have contributed to this project. I appreciate you.

So today I gave something back… working with The Prince's Trust at Ethos Academy Trust giving a short talk to the pupils who attend the SEMH alternative provision school, supporting pupils where mainstream schooling hasn’t worked out. I don't often think about my journey, so I'd like to thank Jo Shwe for believing in the impact and motivating me to take part in these presentations. My inspirational talk was about overcoming adversity to succeed. It was emotional to talk about my journey but extremely rewarding to show how ultimately you’re the master of your own destiny. I’d like to thank Graham J. Bird for his help in putting my presentation together. We talked about framing… we all agreed we all had a superpower and we all understood everyone has challenges, but overcoming them ultimately made you stronger and wiser. I’d also like to thank Robert Stubb and Roxtec Group allowing and encouraging me to do this. Best part of the day was a pupil in no uncertain terms questioning me… “if you’re so good why are you here talking to us?” The simple answer was that I was here where you are today, I realised I needed to make good choices and that ultimately I was in control of whether I succeeded or not. We have the Prince's Trust Enterprise Day on Friday, really looking forward to working with the pupils in developing a business and strategy plan. #achievement #resilience #choices #success #focus #challenges
