I'm representing the Campaign Against Painful Hysteroscopy at Unison's Annual Health Care Conference in Brighton on April 8th and 9th. Hysteroscopy is an excellent tool for diagnosing womb cancer and for treating womb conditions such as polyps. It can be extremely painful if carried out without anaesthetic. Women have the RIGHT to decent, humane pain control for what can be frightening, upsetting and above all painful surgery. Yet NHS policy is to pressurise women into consenting to it with zero anaesthetic - to save money. 1/3 of women who were operated on without anaesthetic report suffering pain levels of 7/10 or more. This is wrong on all levels and CAPH is working to end this policy and ensure choice and pain control for all in what can be a life saving procedure. More about CAPH in the link below 👇 Philippa philippa@speakingwellinpublic.co.uk

🕰️ Eye On History: October 30, 1879 🕰️ On this day, Dr. Henry Willard Williams delivered a landmark lecture at the Massachusetts Charitable Eye and Ear Infirmary about the critical importance of early intervention in treating eye diseases to prevent #blindness. 👀 Why It Matters: Early detection and treatment are key to preventing vision loss. Research supports that timely intervention can prevent up to 90% of blindness caused by conditions like diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Williams' early advocacy set the stage for modern preventive eye care practices. 📊 The Impact of Vision Loss: Approximately 12 million Americans aged 40 and over currently have vision impairment, with this number expected to double by 2050. The economic burden of untreated vision loss exceeds $35 billion annually in the U.S. alone, highlighting the necessity of early detection and regular eye exams. 🤝 In what ways does your practice prioritize early detection and prevention? #eyecare #ecp #eyecareprofessionals #opthalmology

PEDIATRIC TRAUMA’S TWO-SIDED COIN: Optimized care of an injured child complements judicious deployment of surgical resources. Last week at The Israel National Institute for Health Policy Research (NIHP) conference I had the pleasure of presenting our data-driven decision rule for predicting #emergency #trauma #surgery in children. National data, 83,000 kids, 20 trauma centers, 10 years. Bottom line: we can quickly point surgical resources at kids who need them and point them away from those who don’t. Clinical insights with systems implications. Published in #Injury, led by Dr Yulia Gimelraikh with co-investigators from the fields of #trauma, #emergency medicine, #anesthesia and #intensive care spread across Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel, The Gertner Institute, Rambam Health Care Campus, Haemek Medical Center , Samson Assuta Ashdod Public Hospital, and the National Trauma Research Institute . Special thanks to Dr. Moran Bodas and Dr. Dany Epstein for their touches on this project. #TRAUMA Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel Link to article: https://lnkd.in/dHXcQY4u Press (Hebrew): https://lnkd.in/dpjHRCFc

A contact lens bandage designed to facilitate epithelium transfer for healing, Interesting project from Dr. Hannah Levis at University of Liverpool My question is: Can you shower while wearing this type of bandage contact lens if you have an epithelium defect? This is a common concern for patients with epithelium defects, especially those with Acanthamoeba Keratitis. While we seek assistance in healing the epithelium, wearing a contact lens may pose a risk due to the infection's origin. (contact lens don't mix with water) Hannah Levis what is the protocol in this regard? #contactlens #bandage #epithelium #award #prevention #acanthamoebakeratitis #universityofliverpool
