MONDAY MOTIVATION ⚓️ People, circumstances, and experiences that enter your life often reflect aspects of your own personality, beliefs, values, and energy. In other words, the types of individuals and situations that you draw into your life may mirror or resonate with your own characteristics and vibes. This concept is often associated with the law of attraction, in which positive or negative thoughts and energies attract corresponding positive or negative outcomes. Therefore, by being mindful of the energy you emit and the kind of people and experiences you attract, you can gain insight into yourself and potentially influence the nature of what comes into your life. What energy, habits, frequencies or beliefs do YOU need to change? #yachts #finance #boats #paradise #marine #boatowners #boatloan #yachtowners #yachtbroker #marinefinancing #boatfinancing #marinelending #yachtfinancing #lifestyle #boatday #entreprenuer #luxurytravel #yachtclub #luxuryyacht #yachtlife #yachtworld #luxuryboating #yachting #yachtingnetwork #yachtforsale #boatforsale #yachtbrokerage #marinas #superyachts #saltlife

A few weeks ago a huge yacht capsized in the Chesapeake Bay. Luckily no one was hurt. We actually went out on our boat and took a couple photos...it was quite the site to see. After reflecting on what I had seen and the fact that August is speeding towards a close (and along with it the "unofficial" end of summer), I was reminded of the phrase "August doldrums." August doldrums is a term that is closely associated with sailing and the fact that there is usually less wind to help along during the month of August. Although that capsized yacht was not impacted by wind directly, it still got me thinking...if we intentionally look for patterns and keep our sites on what lies ahead, we have the opportunity to see what problems may be coming, tack to change course, and possibly, even avert disaster. The really cool thing about small vessels and sailing is that we can take a sense of our environment, and chart a new course, based on the prevailing winds… This is, of course, true in boating and in business. The right mix of recognizing current conditions and an eye towards the future can have a great impact on whether your vessel reaches the desired destination or takes a surprising tip. Have you had to tack to change course in your business or to take advantage of prevailing winds that would carry you forward? #anticpatoryaccounting #futureproofing #changecourse #businesschange #lookingahead #fractionalCFO https://lnkd.in/enPe9cp8

Tilted on its side, 🚢 the Yamato battleship towers 10 times over Tiffany & Co’s 1940 flagship store. It opened just a few months before the super-cruiser set sail. None of us are historians, but you gotta appreciate how massive boats have shaped our history & ways of thinking. It’s said that this big boat was the most-logical path to take. Being unable to build as many little boats as quickly as the competing nations, Yamato’s masterminds designed a few behemoths to face off against crushing waves of enemy ships. We have to get into the weeds for just a second, then it’s back out to seas. Promise. If you haven’t been on a battleship, it isn't just guns & sailors. These big ones were floating cities complete with blacksmiths, kitchens, workshops - it’s a long list. The webs of logistics, materials, & personalities add to the complexity. The Yamato is supposed to have had about 3,332 people run smoothly. WWII plays into my imagination quite often. With books like The Wager or games like the Windwaker, the seafaring connection only strengthens. Although I don’t think you need a reason to think about massive seafaring vessels, I find sailing a good metaphor to the ocean of decisions we make on our journeys. I also enjoy how any boat from any time can so elegantly mark a people’s economic, social, scientific, & cultural status. If you consider the typical style of thought today: it’s charting a course into the future & then following a sequence of actions toward that goal, using a large amount of data & resources to get there. I think this is highly influenced by ocean travel & I think leads to flawed thinking. A constant source of stress for me is data that shows, across history, how incredibly hard to predict your path through the years. Most people tend to sail, get lost, go in circles, crash; honestly, even if we land where we planned, there tends to be a few variables unaccounted for (or the ultimate human variable: just bored). In either case, we draw our lines backward; rewriting our stories to neatly fit the mess of facts after we wade into the unknown. It’s a shame. I think a lot of folks are trying to build their own Yamato’s for life. I probably am. And when we run into a person or opportunity that doesn’t match the schematics, we kind of just eject it while holding onto what we think the plan needs to succeed. When I think of boats, aka all the time, I am thinking of adventure & shipwrecks & tall tales of daring & adaptation. After all of this Grand Design, the Yamato was sunk before it got that epic battle it was created for. An ocean away, the Tiffany’s followed a string of economic & technological shifts until their cotton-growing family opened those Fifth Avenue door. And many folks from then to now try to disguise luck & chaos as cunning & craft.
