Since 2010, Reproductive Health Network Kenya (RHNK) has been a key player in advancing sexual and reproductive health rights, including providing safe abortion services. 💪 With over 600 healthcare professionals across 44 of Kenya’s 47 counties, RHNK is committed to delivering quality, person-centered care to marginalized and underserved communities. Over the years, RHNK has ; 👤 Reached Millions: In 2023 alone, RHNK reached 2.5 million women of reproductive age with SRHR services, including family planning for 1.3 million women and safe abortion information and services for over 400,000 people. 🚑 Innovated Service Delivery: Through the Nena Na Binti Call Center, RHNK integrated telemedicine to provide SRHR services remotely, making safe abortion care more accessible. ✊ Advanced Legal Protections: RHNK partnered with the Center for Reproductive Rights to provide pro-bono legal support to healthcare providers facing legal challenges for delivering abortion services. 🤝 Advocated for SRHR: RHNK played a key role in shaping Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, which expanded abortion rights under Article 26(4), ensuring abortion access when a woman’s life or health is at risk. We are proud to stand alongside RHNK in this fight. Safe and legal abortion is a fundamental right, and by working together, we can secure access for everyone, especially those most in need. #TogetherForSafeAbortion

A fractured landscape of reproductive rights continues to evolve in the United States in the wake of the Supreme Court Dobbs decision that revoked the federal right to an abortion, and a new report suggests that pregnant women now face increased risk of criminal prosecution. Between June 2022 and June 2023, there were more than 200 cases in which a pregnant person faced criminal charges for conduct associated with pregnancy, pregnancy loss or birth — the most cases recorded in a single year over decades of tracking, according to Pregnancy Justice, a nonprofit focused on the civil and human rights of pregnant people. Fetal personhood, a concept that extends legal rights to a fetus, embryo or fertilized egg and a cornerstone of the anti-abortion movement, is at the root of many of the allegations. The vast majority of cases from the most recent data allege some form of child abuse, neglect or endangerment, according to the new report. The report finds that 22 women were criminalized for experiencing a pregnancy loss. Five cases included the mention of abortion, an attempt to end a pregnancy, or that the defendant researched or explored the possibility of abortion. The majority of cases took place in states that have fetal personhood in their civil and criminal laws, such as Alabama, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Here's the latest: https://lnkd.in/eyz9Xs62

💪💪The Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Care Bill 2024 Sierra Leone has made a monumental stride forward with the tabling of the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Care Bill 2024. This is a law that places women’s health, dignity, and rights at the forefront. It is a landmark moment, a win for every woman in Sierra Leone, and a significant step toward a more equitable society. Yet, amid the celebration, let’s address the persistent hypocrisy 🙄🙄🙄 and entitlement surrounding women’s reproductive rights. Why do so many men feel the need to dominate conversations and decisions about women’s bodies? Seriously, waytin concern una if a woman decides she’s not ready to keep a pregnancy? Why this constant urge to judge and control what should be a personal and private decision? For too long, countless women have been forced into dangerous situations, risking their lives because safe options were unavailable, inaccessible, or simply forbidden. Do you know how many women are now single parents, struggling to raise children, because they were denied the freedom to choose? Or how many have tragically lost their lives due to unsafe abortions? These stories are heartbreakingly common, and they’re the result of a society that prioritizes control over compassion. This bill is more than a piece of legislation; it’s a lifeline. It ensures that women have access to safe and affordable reproductive health care. It grants them the power to make decisions about their own bodies without unnecessary interference or fear. Passing this bill is a victory, yes, but the fight for gender equality and women’s rights is far from over. We must continue advocating for a society where women’s voices are not just heard but lead the conversations about their health, rights, and well-being. Women deserve the freedom to choose, to be safe, and to thrive. Support us by creating a culture that respects our autonomy and listens to our needs. Because a society that empowers its women is a society that prospers. It’s time to dismantle the toxic stigma surrounding reproductive health and build a future where every woman in Sierra Leone and beyond can live with dignity, freedom, and choice. So yes, celebrate this milestone, but don’t let it end here. Stay engaged. Keep advocating. And ensure that Sierra Leone continues to move forward not just in law, but in action and attitude. Let’s stand together for a future where women’s rights are truly human rights. #SafeMotherhood #ReproductiveRights #GenderEquality Marie Stopes International

📢 Excited to share my latest article, published in SaltWire Network ! In "What Trump’s Inauguration Means for Women’s Reproductive Rights," I explore how political leadership can shape access to reproductive health care. The article dives into the ripple effects of policies, such as defunding organizations like Planned Parenthood, which provide critical services to millions of women, including cancer screenings, contraception, and sexual health education. 🔍 Did you know? Planned Parenthood reported a staggering 760 per cent increase in appointments for intrauterine devices (IUDs) the day after his win. These trends reflect the palpable anxiety felt by many American women about the future of their reproductive rights under a second Trump administration. I also discuss how policies like the Global Gag Rule could jeopardize funding for international organizations offering life-saving reproductive health services, potentially impacting vulnerable populations worldwide. This moment serves as a reminder of why we must remain vigilant in advocating for reproductive freedom, equity, and access for all.
