An Update From ALM regarding the highly inappropriate behavior at unaffiliated venues in New York City during Leagalweek 2024: In the weeks since Legalweek, ALM has taken the following measures to reinforce its commitment to the safety of its conference attendees and bolster its zero tolerance policy of harassment of any kind: - Every conference attendee – speaker, sponsor, exhibitor, delegate – must affirm ALM’s anti-harassment policy during conference registration. - ALM’s anti-harassment policy will be printed on the back of every conference badge. - ALM is rolling out revised sponsor and exhibitor contract terms and conditions that more strongly state ALM’s anti-harassment stance as it relates to sponsor- and exhibitor-company attendees. - In advance of its next event in the legal industry, ALM is rolling out a “speak up” technology solution in an effort to deter inappropriate behavior and facilitate incident reporting. ALM will continue to work internally and with external stakeholders in the community to determine how we can best champion meaningful, positive change for the legal community and address the larger problem in the industry.

#Lipstick on a #Pig… The much more effective approach would be for attendees to voluntarily stop getting trashed at evening networking events. Impaired people sometimes do bad and stupid things they would never consider when they’re sober. Hence, the concept of #impairment. Carrying around a copy of the #harassmentpolicy will not stop impaired people from doing bad and stupid things. #WorkHard and #PlayHard aren’t supposed to happen at the same time.

One of the biggest discussion points and themes that has come out of the events of Legal Week is ACCOUNTABILITY. Would have loved to have seen ALM and Legalweek take ownership over the fact that many many dozens of people have reported incidents of sexual harassment and assault surrounding their attendance at Legal Week. Instead, the otherwise positive steps outlined below are COMPLETELY overshadowed and soured by Legal Week's opening sentence trying to pretend that all incidents a) happened outside of Legal Week official events and b) just happened to be occurring randomly in NYC at the same time as Legal Week. Instead of trying so hard to act like Legal Week has no connection to these incidents, you could have just left that sentence out and focused on the progress. We are asking for better than this. We are DEMANDING better than this. #legalweek #sexualharassment #accountability
