Leiden secured the 6th spot in ICCA's national conference destination ranking for 2023. ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) annually ranks cities based on conference factors such as rotation in countries, frequency, and participant numbers. The first position is held by Amsterdam, followed by Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Maastricht. Leiden hosted 16 ICCA-approved international conferences in 2023, ranking 81st in Europe and 143rd globally. With strong collaboration among our city partners, we successfully host international scientific conferences in Leiden, despite the absence of large-scale convention centers. Connecting multiple venues in Leiden transforms the historic city center into the conference floor. Miranda Geerlings, manager of Leiden Convention Bureau, is pleased with the result. "Our 6th position in the annual ranking is a remarkable achievement for the 22nd most populated city in the Netherlands. It's a reward for the efforts of Leiden Convention Bureau, our conference ambassadors, and all our conference partners. The title of European City of Science 2022 has given the city of Leiden a place in the spotlight of science on a European scale. I believe that this title has been and will continue to be a great magnet for international conferences and associations to choose Leiden as their destination. In the years to come, the ambition for Leiden is to maintain the legacy that the title European City of Science has given Leiden and to really make an impact for Leiden as a city where science flourishes." 📷©Monique-Shaw #Leiden #cityofscience #ICCA #conference #meeting Read the official press release here: https://lnkd.in/e95a3xjy

We will focus on three topics: - What are the main challenges of accessibility? - How do questions of scale (national, regional, local) affect the interactions between accessibility, mobility, and regional/urban planning? - In what ways do current planning and policy-making processes include the needs voiced by citizens? CAIS announces the publication of a Special Issue on the Future of AIS Conferences. Watch the CAIS interview with the guest editors of the special issue, Cathy Urquhart, Fred Niederman, and Arlene Bailey, on the CAIS YouTube channel, please like and subscribe! https://lnkd.in/e8z_Bnfc "The future of AIS conferences, thrown into sharp relief by virtual innovations during the pandemic and the subsequent return to face-to-face conferences, is debated in this special issue. This editorial introduces the seven papers contained in the special issue and provides the context for the debate on the future of conferences in the AIS Community as well as pinpointing key contributions made by the papers in the special issue. The editors debate three questions: Are conferences still a viable means of academic exchange and community for the future? Given that both virtual and face-to-face options have opportunities and constraints, what can we do to have the best of both options? What consequences, intended and unintended, do new conference formats have for social inclusion and sustainability? We examine different types of hybrid formats and features and also consider the vexed question of how pricing may impact inclusion. We conclude with a call to consider that, for social inclusion, we have an obligation to make participation as rich as possible - some options should not offer a diminished experience. As outlined in this editorial and special issue, the challenges of making participation as rich as possible are manifold - but in doing so, we help both our community and the planet." The Steering Committee of ACM WebSci is seeking statements of interest from organizations or consortia interested in hosting the 18th ACM Web Science Conference (WebSci 2026). The conference series usually moves between the continents. We will accept bids from all locations, but for the 2026 conference, we will give preference to bids within Europe. We expect the conference to take place in May-June. Co-location with other ACM conferences will be considered and hosting the conference as a hybrid event is encouraged. Please include a statement on how you would propose offering remote attendance. The process consists of two stages. During this first stage, the Steering Committee solicits informal statements of interest through an open call. We will prefer statements that commit to running an event with low registration costs encouraging participants from all disciplines, including ones with lower financial provisions. Organizations wishing to host the conference should contact Susan Davies (sdd1@soton.ac.uk) with a short paragraph outlining your interest, which should include the main organizer, the proposed venue and potential dates. Any organization can apply to host the conference, but the local organizing committee must include a representative of a local research group. Once the first phase is complete, the Steering Committee will shortlist applications who will be invited to submit a full proposal. The important dates for applying to host the Conference are: Friday 10 May: Deadline for receiving statements of interest Friday 24 May: Notifications to shortlisted bids are sent out Friday 5 July: Formal applications received from shortlisted bids Friday 19 July: Shortlisted applicants informed The hosts for ACM WebSci 2025 will be announced at this year’s conference in Stuttgart, Germany from 21-24 May.
