Earlier this week, here at Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, we had the privilege of having alumna Dulguun Davaasuren connect with operations management students at the Fireside Chat: Operations Management Insights event. Dulguun shared with us her career journey on why she concentrated in operations management and emphasized the importance of soft skills in the workplace. She also highlighted that starting a new job in a new industry will always have it’s own unique challenges but over time, you will no doubt get better as you’re exposed to different learning opportunities. 🔑 Here are three takeaways that will resonate with SFU Beedie students: 💡 Adaptability: Dulguun attributes much of her success to her adaptability, a skill that is highly sought after by employers. 💡 Diverse Experiences: Embracing new challenges has been key to Dulguun’s journey. By exploring different roles, she discovered her career path in operations management. 💡 Upskilling: In today’s evolving career landscape, continuous learning is essential. Dulguun exemplifies this by actively pursuing her PMP certification. Thank you, Dulguun Davaasuren, for sharing your time and career insights with us! #SFUBeedie #SFUAlumni #OperationsManagement #PMP #CAPM

Today, I'm thrilled and terrified to share that I am embarking on a Level 7 CIPD in Strategic People Management! This has been a long-awaited goal of mine, and finally, the pieces are falling into place. Being a lone parent and running a business has been a challenging yet rewarding journey. Time has always been my biggest hurdle. However, as my wonderful and wilful 🤪 teen daughter grows and finds her own path among her friends, I've discovered a bit more time for myself ... so what do I do ? Of course enrol myself onto the equivalent of a two year masters course 😅😅 Anyways, not looking for a pat on the back (you can save that for when I've gotten through it!) BUT I want to share this because I know many of you face your own fears and obstacles when it comes to pursuing further education or career advancements. Whether it's time constraints, financial hurdles, or self-doubt, the barriers can feel insurmountable. But here's what I hope to remind myself of through the process .. Embrace the journey: Every small step is progress. It's not about how fast we move but that we keep moving. Seek support: We're stronger together. Friends, family, mentors—don’t hesitate to lean on your network (if you’re reading this then I am counting on you 🤓😬) Celebrate small wins: Every little achievement adds up and builds momentum. To those contemplating a new challenge: let me know what it is and let's support each other! Let's keep pushing boundaries and striving for growth, both personally and professionally. #CareerDevelopment #CIPD #LifelongLearning #StrategicPeopleManagement #SoloParenting

#beforeandaftericcp "My life has undergone a profound transformation since embarking on the ICCP career coaching program eight weeks ago. Initially, I had modest expectations, but Dr. Akanimo Odon exceptional coaching and mentorship exceeded them in every way. His dynamic approach and engaging delivery style not only kept me engaged but also inspired me to take action. Through this program, I gained the confidence to establish myself as a thought leader in my industry, leveraging the valuable insights and skills I acquired to build meaningful connections and grow my professional network. My career path is now clearer, more purposeful, and aligned with my personal brand. The program's emphasis on problem-solving has been a game-changer, teaching me to approach challenges with a solution-focused mindset. I'm deeply grateful to Dr. Akanimo Odon, Dr Mina Ogbanga (CFRM) our University Lead, and our sponsors for their dedication and support. To all my mentors in cause of this program, Michael Pasi, Barbara Phiri Mpepo, Praise Mercy, Tunji Oyegbami, Samukeliso Sibanda and the host of others who provided invaluable guidance and encouragement throughout my journey. The ICCP program has equipped me with: - Enhanced problem-solving skills - A stronger personal brand - A clearer career direction - Meaningful connections and networking skills - A growth mindset and renewed confidence If you're seeking to unlock your career potential and transform your life, I highly recommend exploring a program like ICCP. It could be the catalyst you need to achieve your goals and reach new heights. #CareerTransformation #ICCPImpact #ProfessionalGrowth"

I’m a career consultant and have been for two decades. Consultancy often is associated with negative clichés, and often the impact the consultancy industry within society is misunderstood. Being a consultant is much more than a title and requires a complex set of skills, tools and knowledge that need to be expertly deployed to a particular situation. That is why for me, the professionalisation of consultancy through Chartership – working towards and becoming a Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC) – provides recognition and a sign of quality. The Chartership process is rigorous, requires strict adherence to a code of conduct and, alongside demonstrating alignment to the competency framework, it encourages crucial self-reflection. As consultants, it’s easy to jump from one project to the next: this process encourages us to take stock of successes and learning opportunities, a valuable habit for continuous improvement. As consultants in an ever-changing world, we face challenges daily. Chartership nurtures this continuous learning, enabling us to demonstrate how we can overcome these challenges, and help organisations thrive – through ongoing education and learning, listening extensively, seeking new experiences and displaying curiosity. #TogetherChangesEverything #30DaysConsulting #atkinsrealis #ChMC

𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐀 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 I committed to upskill and dive deeper into the VA world a few months ago. In my first LinkedIn post, I pledged to document my journey, and today, I'm excited to share a significant milestone. I want to express my sincere gratitude to a few incredible people who have been instrumental in this journey: Adeife Adeoye: Your inspiring video motivated me to leap, which truly made a difference. Oyin Olufayo: Your voice still resonates in my head, encouraging me to take the course, make the LinkedIn post, and keep tabs on me. SUCCESS OKORIE: Thank you for your unwavering support, accountability, and positive vibes. Thank you Oluwatosin Ajao, for your invaluable mentorship, guidance, and support throughout the TDA program. Your commitment to shaping us into skilled VAs has been truly inspiring! 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙎𝙤 𝙁𝙖𝙧 In Oct, I completed my certification in one of the VA programs I enrolled in. The experience was truly transformative. I'll never forget the challenge of my first assignment. With a tight deadline looming, my husband's candid feedback pushed me to think critically and deliver a much stronger piece of work. This experience taught me the power of collaboration and the value of seeking diverse perspectives (Growth Mindset). Through this journey, I've learned invaluable lessons: * Challenge the Status Quo: Don't let limitations hold you back. Give it your best shot and see what you can achieve. * Leverage Your Network: No one succeeds alone. Surround yourself with supportive people. * Believe in Yourself: Be your own biggest cheerleader. * Time is Precious & waits for no one: Don't let excuses delay your progress. Congratulations to all my fellow TDA Cohort 4 participants on completing this journey together. Here's to endless possibilities! 𝙄'𝙢 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙀𝙭𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙑𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩. Returning back to studies is always challenging; but being able to step out of my comfort zone and take that first step in enrolling 2 months ago, was the best decision yet. Working with the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and learning from the facilitators and attendees this week, was such a pleasure. So much knowledge and experiences there. I cannot wait to get some real-life board experience soon. Now onto my assessment for the next 3 months, before getting that Graduate Certificate! #AICD #CompanyDirectorsCourse #TheDirectorsMindset #BoardExperience

A few years ago, I took a chance and failed. I went for a role and missed out. In the aftermath, like many, I cried into my soup. But this time, I decided to pick myself up. I reflected honestly on what went wrong despite feeling ready for the challenge, and I put a strategy in place to minimize the chances of it happening again. I embraced a learning mindset. I embarked on a three-year Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship via the NHS levy, delivered through University Centre Quayside (UCQ). Why? Because I wanted to close the gap. To make it harder for any potential employer to say no to me. I needed to focus my mind as COVID turned our world upside down. But spinning plates is rarely easy. Since then, I’ve welcomed a second child, faced family losses and major health scares, all while continuing to navigate the complex world of NHS Procurement. But i did it. I’m proud to say I’ve completed my CMDA with distinction. I earned a BA(Hons) in Professional Management with a healthy 2.1, alongside a Chartered Management Institute Level 5 in Management and Leadership. I’ll be applying for my Chartered Manager status in due course knowing I am better prepared to be a leader people deserve. And finally i have a moral to a story. When faced with setbacks, it's natural to feel disheartened. However, resilience and self-reflection can transform failure into a learning opportunity. By embracing a proactive approach and seeking personal growth, we can close the gaps in our skills and experiences. Life may present challenges and complexities, but dedication and perseverance pave the way to success. Keep learning and striving, and you'll achieve your goals despite the obstacles. Go get your slice of the world. You wont be disappointed.

🚀 Exciting Weekend Highlight 🚀 This past weekend, I was invited to speak at the ADHO Human Development Professional Certification Course (Cohort 7). Firstly, I cannot believe the certification is at Cohort 7! But it was a powerful reminder to me that we should not be afraid of changing direction in our careers. One key takeaway: embracing "slash careers" and diversifying our skills can lead to unforeseen growth and fulfilment. It requires unlearning and learning new ways of thinking, staying open-minded to new ideas, and seeking opportunities to have a full and enriched career and life. Reflecting on my own journey, I can't help but mention the book that gave me direction towards becoming a human development professional - **"Measure of Man" by Bob Aubrey**. It’s a transformative read that I highly recommend to anyone looking to delve deeper into understanding human development and its place in the world of work. #HumanDevelopment #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #SlashCareers #BobAubrey #MeasureOfMan #Consulting #CareerTransitions (📚 "Measure of Man" by Dr Bob Aubrey - A must-read for all human development professionals!)
