I recently had the privilege of visiting our Nature Energy HQ in Odense and biogas plant Midtfyn, and the experience offered a valuable perspective on how innovation, collaboration and sustainability work hand-in-hand to drive the energy transition forward. 🌱 Maximizing value from waste: I was inspired to see first-hand how organic waste is being turned into a valuable resource for generating clean, renewable energy, powering entire communities. ♻️ A model for the circular economy: This operation exemplifies how we can close the loop, converting waste into energy and at the same time recycling by-products into high-quality, nutrient rich fertilizers - benefiting both energy systems and agriculture. 🤝 Collaboration is essential: The success of biogas lies in mutually beneficial partnerships - agriculture, industry, and energy working together to unlock potential at scale. The biogas model is a clear example of the innovative approaches we need to embrace as we navigate the global energy transition, and having trained as a Biochemist, the visit to the R&D Innovation Lab was a particular highlight! Likewise, it demonstrates that with the right technology and partnerships, we can accelerate progress toward a low-carbon future, values that were also expressed and exemplified by our Shell and Nature Energy IDT teams as we work together to deliver some major compliance and integration milestones over the coming months. Thank you Bjarne Dahl and team for your commitment and can-do attitude, it has been a pleasure to spend time with you all this week. #Sustainability #Biogas #RenewableEnergy #CircularEconomy #EnergyTransition #Innovation #Collaboration

Biogas: Turning Waste into Sustainable Energy As landfills grow rapidly in developing countries, biogas or renewable natural gas (RNG) offers a practical solution to two critical challenges: Waste management and clean energy generation. Produced by breaking down organic matter like food waste and agricultural residue in an oxygen-free environment, biogas prevents harmful methane emissions while creating a versatile energy source. RNG can power industries, households, and vehicles, driving a circular economy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Industries producing goods that often-become waste post-consumption can adopt RNG to lower their carbon footprint and enhance sustainability efforts. Developing nations can also benefit by turning waste into a resource, reducing landfill hazards, and boosting energy independence. “With the increase in landfills in developing countries lately, renewable natural gas (biogas) should be invested in and be one of the sources of energy used by industries to power their productions, most especially industries whose products often become waste after the consumption of end-users.” RHETORT Biogas is more than a renewable energy source—it’s a pathway to a cleaner, sustainable future.
