🎉 Exciting News! Breaking into Data Science 🎉 I've been passionate about the Data field since my first day at Accenture, and I’m thrilled to share that I’ve finally joined the Data & AI Capability as an AI/ML Engineer But the journey here wasn't without its challenges. There were times when I second-guessed my interest in Data Analysis/ Data Science. The common belief that you need to be an expert in math and statistics to succeed in this field led me to doubt myself. I found myself procrastinating, and trying out other career options, but nothing sparked my interest like Data Science did. I've always had a Love-Hate Relationship with Math. In School, I struggled with it, I used to feel frustrated when I could not solve a problem and often felt embarrassed to ask questions or doubts. But I also loved math and enjoyed it when I could solve the problems. The reason most of us struggle with math (or any skill) is that we give up when we are not able to solve the problem. We end up doubting ourselves, instead of identifying where we went wrong or how can we improve ourselves. You need to have a learning mindset when you are trying to solve a problem. EFFORT, PRACTICE , CONSISTENCY, and a LEARNING SPIRIT are all you need to acquire any skill. We all know this yet we waste our time into doubting ourselves. Recently, I read a post by Meri Nova that really resonated with me and helped clear my mind and reduce my anxiety. Yes, Math and Statistics are important in Data Science, but there’s so much more to the field. There’s a lot to learn, the syllabus is VAST and it can be Overwhelming. However, I’ve decided to leave behind my fear and start focusing on building a strong foundation, taking it ONE STEP AT A TIME. This post reminds me to stay consistent and keep working on my skills. I'll be sharing my learnings here on LinkedIn, despite the challenges of balancing new responsibilities at work. This is my story of #BreakingIntoData. What’s yours?
