WATCH: CEO of HRI Racecourses Paul Dermody is in Bahrain for the Bahrain International Trophy. We caught up with him earlier this week to discuss the partnership between Horse Racing Ireland and the Bahrain Turf Club, and the opportunities that exist for Irish Racing. Leopardstown is very grateful for the support of the Bahrain Turf Club for a number of our Flat races, which includes the prestigious Group 1 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes. https://lnkd.in/eQf7NUUn

MMA Transfers to the Isle of Man: Driven by Passion & Precision Success isn’t handed to you it’s built, one step at a time, fueled by an unwavering passion and the drive to achieve perfection. That’s the foundation of my journey, a philosophy that not only helped me establish MMA Transfers as Manchester's most trusted private hire taxi service but also ignited my lifelong dream of racing at the Isle of Man. For over seven years, MMA Transfers has thrived, earning the top spot on platforms like TripAdvisor and Three Best Rated for the last five years. This achievement wasn't a stroke of luck; it was the result of riding on the edge, where every decision mattered. Just like in racing, there was no room for error. Precision, focus, and determination were and still are my guiding principles. The same principles that built my business now propel me toward my ultimate goal: conquering the Isle of Man TT. It’s a dream born from passion and lets say i have a job to do, one that requires meticulous planning and relentless effort. With three goals set, I’ve ticked off two, and the final one stands within reach. If you know, you know, dreams demand discipline, sacrifice, and an unshakable belief in yourself. Through the journey, I've learned that success, whether in business or on the racetrack, comes down to commitment and a clear vision. If you can dream it and are willing to put in the work, anything is possible. MMA Transfers was just the beginning. Now, it’s time to take that same drive and precision to the next challenge: Track Racing leading to the Isle of Man. It’s not just a race—it’s the ultimate test of everything I stand for. ****MELBOURNE CUP POST****** HI All, it’s that Magical time of year again for my once a year social post on LinkedIn. This year I’m boosting it with a graphic and a headline based on the complaints from people last year of not being able to find it. Sheesh there’s just no pleasing some people. Lets get the caveats out of the way. My views only, not those of my employer. Not financial advice. No Liability taken. Bet Responsibly etc etc. Now we’ve got the malarkey out of the way, on to the good stuff. The name of the game today is discipline! Put your $5 each way bets on and just enjoy the day. Cup Post: (Full Card to follow.) So we’re down a foreign Raider, We’re down last years winner, a raft of late exclusions on vets advice and we’ve got some pretty questionable lead up races. Where does that leave us? It’s going to be tough and the markets not really going to help us. By the time they jump I think there will only be a few horses in single digit odds. So this year we are going to have to grind out a selection. Its pretty clear Just Fine will jump to the lead with Okita sitting just off it, but there’s no genuine on pacers in the race. So we’re expecting a slower tempo than last year. Normally, I’d be inclined to think that would help the foreign raiders but life’s never that easy. The foreign horse have had trouble settling and I get a sneaking suspicion that something at longer odds is going to try and pick that pace up a little if they are going to have any chance. Jockey wise we can’t complain Williams has been in scintillating form but you’ve got some very, very smart jockeys from overseas Morreira, Atzeni and Zac’s back as well. I don’t think Vauban is a better horse than last year and I think to win this years edition you’ll need to be within 5-7 lengths of the lead on the run home to stand a chance which means he’ll be racing uncomfortably. Onesmoothoperator isn’t a top line northern hemisphere horse and beat a nothing field out here easily. He’ll run the distance but I’m not sure theres too much of him. So its back to the locals and no one jumping out as tried and tested at the 2miles so we’ll be looking for something a little younger and on the up and hope they go the distance. They’ll need a turn of foot late in the game and the only races really worth the measure remaining are probably the Metrop and the Caulfield Cup. Which whittles us down to Buckaroo and Land Legend. Either can win it and a place bet may make more sense but that’s not what you come for so this years pick will be Land Legend. And your throw at the stumps for your trifectas and first fours. I think Absurde looked good until the barrier draw. Theres a lot of talk on Zardozi and Kovalica but the market suggests something rough is going to sneak into the minors, Interpretation? Flemington: Race 1: No bet (1 if you must) Race 2#4 Race 3#9 Race 4#3 Race 5#2 Race 6#8 Race 7#8 Race 8#7 Race 9#12 Race 10#11 Enjoy #MelbourneCup

When a country leads the way and makes such important animal welfare decisions, it is interesting to see how others respond. Some will jump to an economic argument, saying that because it brings in money and employment that justifies continuing. Well, New Zealand have dealt with that by offering notice and transition support recognising that economics is not a valid argument for preventing harms based on a want not a need. Others will sensationalise on potential fate of the existing dogs, as use that as a reason to continue. Well, New Zealand have dealt with that by putting forward emergency legislation to prevent the euthanasia of these dogs. There are those that say “we have a new welfare plan” so there’s no need to ban it, because we can make it better for the dogs. New Zealand’s approach is a paradigm shift in welfare for dogs, not incremental gains, they have recognised that the industry had opportunity to improve and now the public interest/social licence has expired. It takes real strength to make such leading steps to protect the interests of animals, especially in the face of internal and external criticism. Well done for leading the way, I’m sure others will enventially follow.

What Is the Kentucky Derby? The Kentucky Derby is a competitive race for three-year-old Thoroughbred horses and is part of the Triple Crown. 20 horses compete for prize money on a 2.01 km (1.25 miles) dirt track. Geldings and colts are required to carry 57 kg (126lb) and fillies 55 kg (121lb) while running the race. A gelding is a castrated male horse, a colt is a young male horse, while a filly is a young female horse. To qualify, horses compete in 35 races around the world. The top four horses in each of these races are given points. 20 horses with the most points qualify for the Kentucky Derby. To win the Triple Crown, a horse has to win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. So far, only 12 horses have won the Triple Crown.
