🇱🇸 #Lesotho, with strong international support, is launching a comprehensive programme to rehabilitate degraded #watersheds and strengthen catchment #management. This initiative, led by the Government of Lesotho and backed by partners like the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to address water scarcity and land degradation, critical not only for Lesotho but for the broader Southern Africa region. The programme, named #ReNOKA, focuses on Integrated Catchment Management (#ICM) to promote socio-economic development and climate adaptation. It includes policy harmonization, institutional development, capacity building, watershed rehabilitation, and robust monitoring. Community participation is vital, with local groups forming Village and Community Watershed Teams to drive implementation and promote sustainable practices. By combining international expertise with local engagement, Lesotho's Integrated Catchment Management Programme seeks to revitalize landscapes, enhance water security, and build climate resilience for a sustainable future. This collaborative effort exemplifies the collective commitment to environmental stewardship and socio-economic progress in Lesotho and beyond. 💻 On #Assortis you can follow #projects & #tenders like this one in #Sustainability & #Water. #DevelopmentNews #freetender #tenders #tender #internationalcooperation #development #internationaldevelopment #cooperation #platform #climatechange #environment #waterscarcity #landdegradation #SouthernAfrica #Africa #climateadaptation

Water insecurity is increasing on the African continent due to climate change. It is essential to collaborate across borders and work with nature to mitigate the devastating consequences for both humans and nature. I am therefore very happy to announce that DHI and Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Gambie (OMVG). OMVG, representing The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal, plays a vital role in fostering water and energy cooperation across three major basins in West Africa. This week his excellency the honorable High Commissioner of the OMVG Mr. Elhadj Lansana Fofana and I signed a Memorandum of Understanding between our two organisations in an online signing ceremony. Our ambition is to strengthen collaboration in transboundary water cooperation in Western Africa. OMVG-DHI will jointly focus on climate change adaptation, innovation in water and energy management, and environmental impact assessments. We very much look forward to working together to enable a sustainable future for water in Africa. #WaterCooperation #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #Partnership

Today Global Land Tool Network GLTN and UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) teams from Uganda, Namibia, and Nepal held an interaction session and learning exchange on Sustainable Climate Smart and Inclusive Land Use Planning. All three countries had similar understanding on leveraging land use planning to be focused on the needs of the poor and the farmer, and the women and the youth. Spatial planning should relate to economic planning and community involvement and participatory approach should be adhered to for a successful implementation. Common challenges were recognized on balancing the interests of diverse groups in the planning and implementation process. #SustainablePlanning #KnowledgeExchange #L4ACT #LandUsePlanning
