In the midst of meetings with banking institutions and a government ministry, I found myself reflecting on tourism in Yogyakarta (DIY). I decided to write down my thoughts and opinions on the impact and benefits of the new Indonesian president's inauguration. My goal is to foster and spread optimism, especially among my fellow tourism professionals and stakeholders in DIY. To support the boom, Indonesia has unveiled a highspeed train that can cover 142km in just 46 minutes. Bangkok-Penang train route to boost tourism and trade. A new direct train service linking Bangkok's Bang Sue Grand Station and Butterworth, Penang, is set to launch in early 2025, offering a seamless travel experience between these two lively destinations. The resumption of the direct service acknowledges the growing appeal of rail travel in Asia and the success of the Asean Express train service from Malaysia – Thailand – Laos – China. This initiative is a collaboration between the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), as reported by Malay Mail in August 2024. The service will undergo a six-month trial period before full implementation. Southeast Asia's first high-speed rail aka Whoosh in Indonesia, carried 4 million passengers since it began commercial operations on October 17 last year. The HSR was $7.3 bn project backed by its largest trading partner China under its Belt & Road initiative. The HSR can reach a speed of 350km/h. It connects Halim Station in Jakarta to Tegalluar Station in Bandung. The travel time between the two cities is over 3 hours, but in the HSR its approximately 40 minutes. According to Statista, by the end of this year it is projected that the revenue in Southeast Asia's train ticket market will reach $1.04 bn.
