Are you raising too fast? I keep seeing posts from legal tech companies raising very large rounds in rapid succession. I am two-time founder. While I love building companies, I build them to sell them. From a pure investment perspective, I trust myself to create super alpha moment over random investments in the market. Every time you raise capital, you are generally diluting your ownership interest and in many cases limiting your ability to exit. In today news, Harvey raised $100 m at a 1.5 billion valuation. This means that the Harvey team needs to get ARR past $150m to $250m in revenue (6x to 10x valuation) for the new investors to break even. Every time I see one of these crazy large raises for what is a young company. I hope for the founders that they made the right bet. https://lnkd.in/gyCpmv_n

Shareholders Agreements are crucial for companies with 2 or more shareholders, in that they set out each party's rights and obligations (including ground rules about capital contributions and the spending of company money), provide ways to resolve deadlocks and clear exit paths for shareholders that no longer want to do business with each other. They are often overlooked by startups, however. This presents a huge risk (and a very expensive fix) if/when relationships between business partners start to fracture.
