Despite widespread outrage over inequalities across the ideological spectrum, these inequalities persist. Why, then, are we not more united in our determination to eliminate them? Consider English football as an example. When plans for a European Super League were announced in 2021, fans quickly mobilised, united in their outrage at what they saw as a threat to the fairness and integrity of the sport. Yet, in stark contrast, there is no comparable unity when addressing racism in football. Fans often tolerate, ignore, or even perpetuate discriminatory behaviour. One possible explanation for this inconsistency comes from economist Milton Friedman, who said: “A society that puts equality - in the sense of equality of outcome - ahead of freedom will end up with neither equality nor freedom. The use of force to achieve equality will destroy freedom, and the force, introduced for good purposes, will end up in the hands of people who use it to promote their own interests.” I think in other words, efforts to impose equality can backfire, leading to division rather than solidarity. This may explain why, despite widespread frustration with inequality, there is little consensus on how to address it, particularly when different groups prioritise different freedoms or interests. This view may not be popular, but as the saying goes, "Actions speak louder than words." #inclusion #leadership #criticalthinking #racism

The Director of DEI of the FA (currently permitting some 72 males to play in the women's game) has published a DEI strategy. It does not appear to have carried out any equality impact assessment into the material, increased risk of injury to women/girls; the impact on girls and women who will self exclude, including girls of faith; or the impact on us including the trickle down effect on rankings and of opportunity, of permitting men to play in the women's football. A sport in which we are significantly underrepresented. Instead of answering courteous questions he is deleting comments. This doesn't strike me as "leadership" & it speaks volumes about the culture of the FA
We have today published our new four-year equality, diversity, and inclusion [EDI] strategy, titled A Game Free From Discrimination, which sets out our long-term commitment to promote diversity within English football, as well as our ambition to tackle all forms of discrimination in our game.

As the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship ("UEFA EURO 2024") and 2024 Copa América commence, this presents an opportunity to examine the persistent gender pay inequality in sports, particularly in soccer and basketball. Take the case of Victor Wembanyama, the top pick in the 2023 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft, who earned $12.16 million in his first season - roughly 80 times more per game than Caitlin Clark, despite her unprecedented star power and ability to generate revenue. In my article titled "A 90th Minute Equalizer in Soccer Gender Pay Parity" published in Tulane University Law School's Sports Lawyers Journal, the leading legal sports publication in the US, I highlighted the critical need for gender pay parity, the inadequate actions taken by FIFA to address this issue, and ways individuals can help bridge the gap.
