Converting my best IIM call - IIM Bangalore Interview Experience Profile: 9/7/8 [Mechanical Engineer, NIT Allahabad, 28 months of work experience in core sector, Shortlisted for both PGP and PGPBA] Venue: IIM Bangalore campus [Part 1] WAT: Something on the lines that delivery partners of quick commerce business are not adequately compensated and are also given unrealistic delivery timelines. We had to expand on the problems faced by delivery partners and provide solutions for the same. Panelists: 2 Male(P1 and P2 hereafter) P1: Pranav, why don’t you quickly introduce yourself? Me: Start with the prepared answer. (Interrupts in the middle) P1: I can see that you have worked only for 3 months with your previous employer, why did you leave so early? Me: Told P1: Your previous employer was in the news recently for not so good reasons. Can you please explain the issue and what must be contributing to it? Me: Broke down the issue to the root and told reasons that could have contributed to the issue. Also, brought up my role in the company and how that issue could have been addressed. P1: Following up on the previous answer, were you also involved in quality control in your previous role? Me: Explained how there are two phases of quality control in a typical OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer), one during the design/engineering phase where design reviews and/or toll gates are conducted as a quality control measure and the other during manufacturing/assembly of products on the production/assembly line. Told that in my role as Systems/Product Engineer, I am involved in the quality control of the first phase i.e., concept design/engineering phase. P1: Pranav, I can see in your SOP that you have worked on electric vehicles during your undergrad at NIT Allahabad. Don’t you think that this whole electric vehicle thing is a hoax because electricity production and e-waste like batteries results in equal if not more pollution than burning petrol/diesel? Me: This question caught me completely off-guard. I could not think of a very good answer at that point and said that more capacity building and research should be done to make sure that the efficiency of electric vehicles can be increased so that they consume less electricity for the same usage. P1 was not satisfied with my answer and told me that I am giving a diplomatic answer. Reflecting back, I think that I should have answered on the lines of non-renewable nature of fuels and comparatively long life of batteries. Over to P2. P2: Tell me 3 things about Motilal Nehru. Me: Told P2: Do you know what an IPO is? Me: Yes, told that an IPO(Initial Public Offering) is an instrument by which a private company becomes public by selling shares of its stock to the public for the first time through a bidding process.
