Motorsport is more than speed and spectacle; it’s a realm where precision, courage, and teamwork thrive. As a Rescue Chief and trainer, I hold a vital role in safeguarding the sport I love. My position is a labor of passion and commitment, as I serve in a volunteer capacity to ensure the safety of drivers, teams, and fans. Every race day, my team and I stand ready, united by a shared purpose: to protect lives and keep the spirit of motorsport alive. It’s a role that defines me, driven by devotion to a sport that continues to inspire and challenge us all. This year we see a great step forward in the diverse goals of our Abu Dhabi Rescue and Extrication team. Lois Campbell has made history as the first female Rescue and Extrication official for the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to take the role of Team Lead. In this pivotal role, she is responsible for ensuring her team can safely and efficiently perform medical extrication of drivers after severe incidents on track. This is a significant milestone in the sport’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and all down to Lois’s drive and devotion. While women have participated in various capacities within Formula 1, such as Monisha Kaltenborn, who served as the first female Team Principal for Sauber, there is no record of a female team lead specifically for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix within Rescue. The motorsport industry continues to strive towards greater female representation in leadership roles, and the achievements of women like Lois are paving the way for future advancements. Let this inspire you ladies to push past the stereotypes and social norms. If you want it go for it!
