The Times is running a series of articles on the UK's #EV journey. This article, written by Russell Hotten and published today, considers the challenges with the roll-out of #evcharging infrastructure and some of the steps being taken to improve the situation. Our flywheel #energystorage technology addresses the challenges of #gridconstraints to accelerate #evcharging. If you want to know more about our work, please connect with Tom Andrews, our Commercial Director. The article references a number of companies: bp pulse, Schneider Electric, Be.EV, EZ-CHARGE, PodPoint, New AutoMotive and GRIDSERVE . https://lnkd.in/eGhGvc5p

Some context: over the past 4 years (2020-2023 incl.) the number of EV charge points has TRIPLED from 20 to 60,000. The number of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) has increased by almost a factor of TEN to around a million. That's 16 EVs per charge point. Which seems quite generous, don't you think? My guess is that the problem with EV charge points is they are highly concentrated in London and the south-east. In the regions it requires careful planning to drive between charge points on a long journey. And don't forget that a large proportion of the early EV drivers will have charging at home. It's not easy finding the total number of legacy fuel pumps in the UK, but the number of fuel stations is 8,353. At, say, 12 pumps per station that would be around 100,00 pumps for around 30 million ICE cars. 300 cars per pump. I think The Times is overstating a charge point problem to tell their readers what they like to hear.
