Today is Utility Scam Awareness Day, and we’re joining Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) in their efforts to educate customers and expose the tactics used by scammers. Scammers continue to get bolder in their attempts to take advantage of customers, oftentimes showing up at their doors pretending to be affiliated with LG&E and KU. We want to remind customers to be aware and take caution if this happens to you. It’s important those claiming to be associated with the utilities demonstrate they are who they say they are. Visit lge-ku.com/safety/scams for more information, including examples of the latest reported scams. #StopCams

Love this. I was just writing about this. There needs to be a major shift in how public and media sees "scams"! That is Stop blaming the victim and find real solutions! Finding its the victims fault serves a basic psychological defense mechanism to make the world seem safe and good. This is a false belief, and works against finding real solutions from all stakeholders. It can happen to you and or someone you love. It is MYTH that victims are the same. I have had victims of every walk of life; from PHDs to GEDs, from teens to seniors and even some LE. I have been to funerals because of these crimes. Too many victims! It can happen to anyone. 57,000 people are victimized each day and that is the number who report which is around 1 in 10. Can you imagine the number who were targeted every day! Multi-millions of people, billions of dollars lost. Lives lost! Transnational Organized Criminals log on to the internet, using their fake social media accounts, there spoofed phone numbers, Their VPNs, their free mail accounts and go to work EVERYDAY. Stop blaming the victims and find real solutions. This is a great article. Looking forward to more collaboration, education, legislation, regulations, and more investigations. I am also looking forward to April 5th Erin West #OperationShamrock. #TalkAboutScams #TogetherWeCan #StopScams #HaveAScamPlan #Boise
Stop Scams Alliance is proud to have played a leading role in the publication of this op-ed in today's Washington Post. "Scams are on the rise and they're ruining lives. We can stop it." We were the impetus and provided the Websters with research and analysis to help them tell their story and to propose solutions. Let's all thank the Websters for telling the world about their scam experience and for being so active in fighting the epidemic of scams in the United States. "We need a national strategy and whole-of-government approach" to combat this threat. "Every day we wait to start a serious anti-fraud campaign, more lives are being ruined. It's time for that to stop." Other countries are making progress...so can the United States.
