Quintana Roo in the Riviera Maya added 33K new hotel rooms after the pandemic, or 33% of the existing inventory. Airbnb units more than doubled during the same period and now account for 22% of total accommodation, a lot higher than the 14% share in the US. The problem is that the market is not absorbing this increase, and occupancy is dropping quickly across the board. This will put a lot of pressure on rates moving forward, especially when competing destinations such as Guatemala, Salvador, Dominican Republic, and Panama start to emerge. #hotelinvestment #hoteldevelopment #hotelconstruction

Grupo Posadas – Mexico | 21 New Hotel Openings for a Growth Plan Gruppo Posadas S.A.B., well-known hospitality company based in Mexico City, founded in 1967, a group that owns, rents and manages hotels, resorts and villas under its various brands is carrying out a remarkable development plan that includes the opening of 21 new hotels. These new openings mean 3,719 new rooms that will add to the almost 30,000 existing rooms representing an increase of 12%. Why do people choose hotels over Airbnb? I recently ran a small poll on this topic, and the results were not surprising. 70% of respondents said they prefer staying in a #hotel room instead of #Airbnb. I believe there are several reasons for this: - Hotels offer personalized service - No need to worry about cleaning - The convenience of room service and amenities - In many cases, hotel prices are now more competitive as Airbnb prices have risen significantly On the other hand, why do people choose Airbnb? - Easier for families to travel together – many who chose Airbnb have larger families - Flexibility to cook their own meals - More privacy and a "home away from home" feeling While the debate between hotels and Airbnb continues, one thing is clear: Hotels provide a level of service that Airbnb simply cannot match. Prices are up, but will hotel rooms be scarce during the Paris Olympics? 🥇 Not necessarily. Paris officials expect the city’s hotel occupation rate to hit a mere 60 to 70 percent this summer. (In July 2023, Paris hotels averaged about 90.7 percent.) Many Parisians are also set to leave during the festivities, renting their homes on Airbnb. So, you’re likely to find a place to sleep in Paris starting mid-July, but it might be expensive.
