EVENT | Our technical coordinator Anastasios Zafeiropoulos from National Technical University of Athens will represent NEPHELE at the final EUCloudEdgeIoT Open Continuum Conference that will take place on 18th June 2024, 8:30 - 18:30 CEST in The Claridge, #Brussels, Belgium. This event will bring together over 50 Research & Innovation Actions (RIAs) and several Research & Technology Organisations (RTOs) funded by the European Commission and will be the final event of this successful Coordination and Support Action (CSA). The conference will focus on the value of the EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu (EUCEI) community research for the industry, highlighting the latest advancements and results of the EC funded projects that it has supported. Engaging panel discussions, the transition to the Nexus Forum CSA and the current status of the project use cases will also be important at this event. The conference will also feature an awards ceremony recognising the most promising projects within our community. Exciting Developments in our AD4GD water quality pilot ! For the first time, new IoT oxygen #sensors will monitor the condition of three Berlin lakes: Sausuhlensee, Ruhwaldsee, and Lietzensee! 🌍 🔬 In a groundbreaking initiative, Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin is installing these #sensors to closely study the relationship between nutrient content, weather, and oxygen dynamics. This project, in #collaboration with the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, aims to efficiently estimate the trophic state of small urban water bodies, which often go unmonitored. Over 400 lakes of less than 50 hectares in size currently lack proper monitoring in the city of Berlin. 🚀 This work is part of our #pilot case on water quality and availability. The goal? To make this procedure reproducible and ensure the data generated is ready for the future #EuropeanGreenDealDataSpace. This data space will support the objectives of the European Green Deal by creating a secure meeting point for public and private #data. 🌿 Here’s a quick look at the lakes: 🌊 Sausuhlensee: A small lake primarily fed by groundwater and stormwater runoff. Currently, only technician testimonials provide information on its water levels. 🌊 Ruhwaldsee: In comparison to Sausuhlensee, is a very small lake with no direct inflow or groundwater connection, yet it never dries up. Experts rate its water quality as very good, though specific data is lacking. 🌊 Lietzensee: The largest and most polluted of the three, heavily impacted by urban stormwater runoff. Ongoing remediation measures, including underwater filter boxes, aim to improve its condition. 🔍 The innovative approach by the AD4GD team includes standardized vocabularies and the OGC SensorThings API to streamline data collection and integration, facilitating better data sharing among scientists and decision-makers. 🌐 This #initiative is a significant step towards enhancing the sustainability of our water bodies and supporting the European Green Deal.
