I recently wrapped up a brief period of employment that taught me a lot about the importance of aligning professional values with workplace culture. While it’s always disappointing when things don’t work out, I believe each experience brings valuable lessons. This lesson hurt more than most , as I chose career change to be with my daughter. After being in the Army for 25 years I was looking for stability. I quickly realised that my commitment to professionalism and respect for experience, alongside upholding legislation and delivering industry standard solutions did not resonate with the company culture. It became clear that the emphasis on these values was not mutual, leading to some fundamental differences in how we approached our work. Here are a few key takeaways from this experience: 1. **Value Alignment**: It’s crucial to work in an environment where your values are shared and respected. Professionalism and experience should be seen as assets, not hindrances to innovation. 2. **Open Communication**: Encouraging open dialogue about expectations and values can help prevent misunderstandings. It’s essential to have a workplace where feedback is welcomed and valued and respected . 3. **Trust Your Instincts**: Sometimes, it’s better to step away from a situation that doesn’t align with your principles. Recognising when a professional environment isn’t right for you is an important part of career growth. While my time there was short-lived, I’m grateful for the insights gained and look forward to finding opportunities that truly appreciate experience and professionalism. Have you ever faced a similar situation? How did you navigate it? I’d love to hear your stories! #Professionalism #WorkplaceValues #CareerGrowth #Reflection##femaleboss# #motivational #positivevibes #happiness #success #positivethoughts #motivateyourself #motivationalwords #singleparent #femaleboss #veteran #army #armedfoces #security #qshe #hse #care #isc_schools #girlpower #future #innovation #futurism #creativity #compassion #mentorship

Is there any difference in corporate culture between the private and public & semi-public sectors? I experienced corporate culture shock when I joined a GLC after working for several years in the private sectors. I guess the semi-public sectors are also very different from the private sectors. But then, that was merely my experience, and based on my experience, I had to say that the few large GLCs where I worked before aren't comparable to the last private sector where I was employed. You know what I'm talking about. Most of you must've had experience using the services of public, semi-public and private hospitals before. That would be a very good example.

Happy Pride Week, everyone! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ As an IT recruiter, I'm committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable and diverse workspace. One way I contribute is by educating myself on the issue, not just in June, but throughout the year. This means reading literature both on the psychological side and about the structures of society that keep our systematic beliefs in place. And like in every other part of continuous personal development, one is never ready. My task is also to take these learnings into action. To be aware of my biases and prejudices in recruitment. If someone says they don’t have any of those, don’t believe them. The key is to be aware of how both our minds can trick us and some societal structures put people in worse positions than others. Still, one shouldn’t have to do any bigger magic tricks but just do their part. Making the world a better place for everyone is not one person’s job. It’s a collective action. What are you doing to make the world a better place?

Lets hope you do more than has previously been done. Serving stakeholders in the aged care industry will not help those that are vulnerable. You need to serve the aged and vulnerable first, before stakeholders.
It’s my second week at the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission & im feeling extremely grateful for this opportunity. I have met so many amazing new stakeholders & have connected with many old ones as well! 🤩 Change isn’t always easy and after being in the private sector for the beginning of my career, I thought that this change would not only be uncomfortable but also scary. However this wasn’t the case. I have had so much support and guidance by not only my new colleagues, but from all of you that follow me here on LinkedIn. 🎉🥳 Here’s to new beginnings & who knows, we could be working together one day!
