Major updates on the UAE's railway construction program that will impact everyone living in the Emirates. First up #MEED has been able to identify the location of the 3 under construction passenger railway stations serving the existing Etihad Rail freight line. The specific locations of each station are: Dubai: behind the Jumeirah Golf Estates metro station on the Red Line Abu Dhabi: along the pipeline corridor separating Mussafah Industrial Area and Mohammed Bin Zayed City, between Dalma Mall and Musaffah bus station next to Phoenix Hospital Fujairah: parallel to Al-Hilal Street within the Al-Hilal City development The stations, together with the Sharjah University Station, will be the main passenger hubs for the conventional speed railway, which will travel at speeds of up to 200km/h. With construction of the stations under way, you can expect to be able to take a train by the end of 2026. We've already seen some real estate agents latching on to this news by pitching properties around Al Furjan and JGE as being ideal for Dubai-Abu Dhabi connectivity. Perhaps even more significant is the start of procurement for the Abu Dhabi-Dubai high-speed line which will involve the construction of a new direct track between the two cities. Travelling at 320km/h you will be able to reach either city from the other in just 30 minutes. Under the first phase, Dubai will be served by one passenger station at Al Jaddaf while Abu Dhabi will have stations at Zayed International Airport, Yas and Saadiyat Islands and Al Zahiyah in the heart of the capital. This first phase should start construction next year and be ready by 2030. Just as exciting is that later phases will have a high-speed intercity line to Al Ain and a high-speed innercity loop line around Abu Dhabi Island. There are even plans for a high-speed innercity line linking the Al Jaddaf station with Dubai International Airport and central Sharjah.
