Imagine this: if everyone who went out for a meal added just £1 to their bill for charity, how much could be raised in a single day? The numbers would be shocking. And that’s exactly the idea behind StreetSmart – a brilliant initiative turning dining out into a way to help tackle homelessness and poverty. Here’s how it works: participating restaurants, pubs, and bars add £1 to your bill (or more if you’d like) during November and December. That small addition can create a huge impact. Thanks to StreetSmart’s partner, LandAid, 100% of your donation goes directly to those who need it, with all admin costs covered. Last year alone, StreetSmart raised over £1 million. The funds were used for everything from emergency shelters and counselling services to training programs that help people get into work. It’s proof that small gestures really can lead to big changes. In Manchester, these fantastic venues are already on board: - Climat, Manchester City Centre - Tampopo, Albert Square & Corn Exchange - Banyan, Corn Exchange & Spinningfields - Manahatta & BOX, Deansgate - Bottega by San Carlo, Exchange Square - 20 Stories, Spinningfields - Street Urchin & Mana, Ancoats - The Lead Station, Chorlton - Tariff and Dale, Northern Quarter - Stretford Canteen, Stretford - Restaurant Orme, Urmston The list is great, but there’s room for more. If you know a restaurant, pub, or bar that might be interested in joining, encourage them to get involved. It’s a great way to give back during the festive season. Industry charity Ben is once again bringing festive relief to automotive families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis through its Christmas Families Project. The initiative helps families facing difficult choices about essentials like heating, food, and the possibility of affording Christmas gifts. Launched in December 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, the project provides crucial support such as keeping families housed, ensuring access to heating, and putting food on tables. Importantly, it also helps parents bring joy to their children by covering the cost of Christmas gifts and festive meals. The Christmas Families Project is part of Ben’s wider mission to support thousands of individuals across the automotive sector each year. I cannot believe the reaction to that post! Thank you to everyone who has sent support and love, redundancy and job insecurity is certainly a topic of conversation at the moment across lots of sectors but especially across fundraising, even more so after the NI blow which will hit charities hard, there will be a lot of chief execs scratching their heads right now wondering just how to make the already ridiculous sums add up I have ALOT of DMs to work through so please bear with me, I will get back to you For my fundraising colleagues, I have spent three glorious hours with our community champion this afternoon getting all the inside information on how Tesco works and I will share it all with you over the next few weeks My top tip - if you are a community fundraiser (for a local charity or group) and you don’t have a relationship with your community champion in your local Tesco store or Tesco Extra (not the smaller ones) please please please go and seek them out and make that connection, build that relationship for 2025, they are there to support local charities in their community and can do AMAZING things Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
