Before the #pandemic, more than 21 million journeys were made through Gatwick Airport Station every year, and those passenger figures are rapidly recovering. Providing a ‘bigger, better and brighter’ space, the new concourse is the size of eight #tennis courts and has created 500m2 of extra space in the existing station concourse. Now imagine cutting a ship in half, seamlessly adding a new segment, then welding it back together. That's exactly what happened with the Silver Spirit, a 642-foot-long premium cruise ship. In a remarkable feat of engineering, the ship underwent a ground-breaking extension in dry dock in Palermo, Sicily, in 2018. The addition of a new 49-foot-long segment increased Silver Spirit's passenger capacity by around 12%. This innovative approach not only expanded the ship's capabilities, but also set a new standard for marine engineering and ship conversion.
