Recent research shared in Science Magazine underscores the importance of natural forest management, like Aurora's carbon-first strategy, for American climate change mitigation. Natural forest management is the second most impactful natural climate solution in the United States today. Climate Alliance is the largest European city network dedicated to climate action. Their members, ranging from small rural towns to cities with populations in the millions, accept climate change as a global challenge that requires local solutions. I got to "Zoom in" to the CAIC24 | Climate Alliance International Conference in Calais today and talk about how to nudge private investors towards nature based solutions. In the workshop, participants from regions, cities and towns across the world worked on solutions they could implement in their daily work. While preparing for the workshop, I realized how little research there is on the topic at the moment - for now, we need to use good examples from other fields and transfer the knowledge to the problem of supporting nature based solutions. We also discussed that a classic cost-benefit calculation will rarely be in favor of NBS and how other benefits than the financial ones need to be included.
