It’s been a second since I gave an update on #pharmDsinIT, but that's because I made a lot of changes since then :). 1. Database Remodel: I had to remodel the database to better accommodate the dynamic needs of the application. Specifically, I introduced tables for CompanySpecialties and CompanyTypes which were previously just Company attributes in my model. This change was essential for allowing more granular filtering, such as filtering job posts by company specialties like "Digital Therapeutics" or "Pharmacogenomics." By restructuring the database, I was able to associate companies with multiple specialties and types, making it easier to categorize companies and jobs across different healthcare sectors (which also includes adding new specialties as they arise). 2. Specialty Filter: This filter enables users to search job listings by a company's specific specialties. This filter utilizes the newly added CompanySpecialty data, helping users easily discover roles tailored to particular industries or areas of expertise (such as Virtual Care, Genetics, etc.). This approach allows clinicians to leverage their clinical skills and potentially break into tech by focusing on their specialized fields. (This is a feature I wish existed when I was making my career transition in 2021). 3. Department & Team Filters: To further refine search results, I added filters for job department and job team, allowing users to target job posts based on roles in specific teams or departments, such as "Behavioral Health" or "Therapy." While these two filters may seem somewhat redundant, I separated them because that's how the ATS' API data (aka the job post data from Greenhouse, Lever, etc) is structured. This ensures that I accurately reflect the hierarchy of the job data and allow for more precise filtering in cases where teams and departments overlap or diverge. Hire a Picasso: In the middle of the pandemic, the saying was “anyone with a pulse will get a job at a CDMO or in a pharma company”. Post-pandemic, now, saying is “if you have network, you will get a job”. Ponder upon it for a second and you won’t have to read the entire post. We got through one of the worst pandemics in modern history by how? By hiring Folks for a Different Background, by hiring people with education and arts degrees in GMP manufacturing rooms, by expanding our recruitment to DEI and underprivileged class, “we got through the pandemic by hiring Picasso”. It has been three years post-pandemic, and we (the Homo Sapiens sapiens) are baffled, lost, and worried, why? Because we have hired “People we would love to work with, people that share exactly our experiences, people that we met on the golf course we go to, the people that look like us” Get out of your comfort zone, Hire a Picasso, bring in new ideas, hire a versatile personality that will help you build a dynamic, adaptable workforce that can thrive in the ever-changing landscape. I can teach anyone Microbiology, Next gen sequencing, Cell and gene therapy etc, but only a Picasso can paint something that generations will remember.
