According to the guidelines, the essential norm for Ayush hospitals is one hospital bed per 5,000 population, while the desirable norm is one bed per 2,000 population. Currently, there are 3,844 Ayush hospitals run by central and state governments across India, with a total bed strength of 60,943. To achieve the essential number of beds, the guidelines suggest utilizing public health systems such as medical colleges, district hospitals, and Ayush hospitals of various bed capacities. In the past 5 years, govt. spent Rs 72,817.76 crore on the AB-PMJAY scheme. Rs. 48,778.61 crore (over 67%) of this was for treatments in private hospitals. Rs. 24,039 crore (33%) was allocated for treatments in public hospitals. ✍ Government hospitals represent 58% of empaneled facilities, yet a majority of hospitalizations occured in private hospitals ✍ In five years, out of 5.47 crore patients under AB-PMJAY, over 50% (2.95 crore) opted for private hospitals ✍ Around 60% of patients who went to private hospitals under AB-PMJAY were from 5 states (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh) ✍ Govt. data indicates that treatment costs in private hospitals are 6-8 times higher than in government hospitals Top Spending states: 🔷 Andhra Pradesh- 13419 Cr 🔷 Gujrat- 8087 Cr 🔷 Tamil Nadu-6249 Cr States with most beneficiaries 🔶 Tamil Nadu- 97 L 🔶 Karnataka-70 L 🔶 Kerala-55 L AB-PMJAY last 2 year spending trends 📅 2022-23 Private Hospitals: 13,213 Cr Govt.
