See our letter here: https://lnkd.in/ea-GYm7s 😟 250,000 kids who are already #entitled to FSM can't receive them due to paperwork! 😟 Schools miss out on critical additional funding to support our most disadvantaged pupils 😍 #BUT - Gov can easily fix this - they just need to join databases together! (Here's my quote in the press release... "There are far too many hoops that parents, schools and councils must go through just to be able to make sure that a child can receive a free school meal.  Poor government policy and administration is to blame.  This can be easily fixed – and doing so will be a triple bonus.  It means our most vulnerable children can eat a free, hot nutritious meal.  It will save hard-up parents money that can be used for other vital things.  And it means that schools get the critical extra funding that government has allocated – to help our most disadvantaged children do well in school”

This is outrageous. It devastates us so much that a nursing student had to face the indignity of period poverty not only while at university but while on placement at a hospital… THIS IS NOT OKAY! How is this happening in Australia?? "I experienced homelessness while doing unpaid nursing placements due to cost. Not only didn’t the university care but the hospitals I was working at didn’t have any available products. I found myself stealing gauze and using the hospital showers to wash out blood-stained underwear just to get by." Our Bloody Big Survey found 77% of university and TAFE students had experienced period poverty, and the number of students having to improvise on period products had increased by 6% since 2021. 🥗 Malnutrition is a burning issue for the impoverished Eastern Cape and recently reached its peak with calls to declare the crisis a state of disaster. Statistics show that in the primarily rural parts of the province, some 880 000 people are impoverished. Research further reveals that children who are regularly deprived of accessing the needed nutrition not only have poorer learning outcomes but also suffer damage to almost all aspects of their physical and mental health. 📌 This deprivation often leads to some learners dropping out of school. As we know, every child needs all these qualities to succeed in school: focus, memory, mood, and motor abilities which are all impacted by malnutrition. 🌟 To hamper this, Small Projects Foundation through its Zero Dropout Project, fundraises to acquire emergency food parcels for children in need to help them stay in school.
