LightingEurope’s Post

Lighting is more than just illumination – it’s a cornerstone of wellbeing, productivity, and sustainability in our buildings. With people spending 90% of their time indoors, ensuring proper lighting is crucial for fostering a healthy indoor environment. As highlighted in our recent paper, good lighting impacts buildings in multiple ways: 💡 Enhancing visual and non-visual comfort, such as reducing glare, supporting circadian rhythms, and boosting productivity. 🪴 Driving sustainability and energy efficiency through smart systems like LEDs coupled with responsive and automated controls and sensors. 🏢 The implementation of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) must emphasize the importance of integrating indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and the contributions that lighting can make to healthy, energy-efficient, and comfortable buildings. The right lighting systems designed and implemented according to the existing standards, building type, and building use can unlock energy-efficiency gains, optimize building operation, and simultaneously benefit building owners, occupants, and the environment.
