#Changenow from a climate Tech perspective 🔬 This year was my second time at #HelloTomorow but my first at #changenow...and there are indeed deep tech discussions : 🌪️DAC X 🐚(Bio)mineralization : It was great to catch up with Amandine Cadiau from the ready to fly DAC Stathmos-Balance the Climate. Sure, as biomineralization can work in dilute systems, it can (and will) remove CO2 from the air directly. 🌈But we are versatile, so I believe that providing a local mineralization solution for any method concentrating CO2 should be investigated (no transport in pipes, no drilling, no injection...). 🧱Concrete decarbonization : I held a big cube of the Fortera limestone and had a great chat with the European group lead by Thierry Legrand. They take limestone and activate it in the form of vaterite, a rare crystal with active properties in concrete lowering the need for cement! 💡We had an interesting conversation around the screw-fastening capability of materials mixing limestone and fibers, which is the case of biominerals (--> a replacement for asbestos addition...) 💪Empowering woman in climate tech: An inspiring interview of Helena Wasserman tackling THE thing that will make a difference (after bringing women in like Marble does ❤️) : making sure they get the funding they deserve with the Unstoppable program. 🔬Scientists have found a way to enhance the #ocean's natural ability to absorb #CO2. 💡 Startups like Captura, are pioneering techniques to #extract CO2 directly from #seawater. Their process splits seawater into acidic and alkaline parts to remove CO2, which is then #stored, while neutralized water is returned to the ocean. Industry leaders are scaling up these technologies with facilities in Norway and Singapore, backed by venture capital and major corporate contracts. Extracting CO2 from seawater is emerging as a more #efficient and cost-effective alternative to direct air capture. Despite promising potential, challenges such as infrastructure needs, investment demands, and environmental concerns remain. Nonetheless, integrating ocean-based CO2 removal could be a game-changer in the fight against #climate #change.
